When CD-ROM's came out in the early 90's, developers had actual space for data, so they could spend time on making a game look really cool. It's largely why Myst was so mind-blowingly successful. It's ironic really, since I'd wager most people that bought/played Myst really didn't like it. The Lost City definitely takes a large dose of inspiration from that seminal game, so could it suffer the same fate?
Some uncharted lands should remain that way, as you'll discover in Alawar's upcoming hidden object adventure game Natural Threat: Ominous Shores. Science has long abandoned a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific, but your friends have been captured there by unforgiving mutations of humanity. You'll need to use every ounce of observation and courage available to you to fight the threat that is stalking you and save your friends before it's too late.
The death of a particle physicist leads to a daring treasure hunt in Xii Games' Resonance, as the scientist's lost discoveries hang in the balance. As a group of four different characters, you'll need to help those characters trust each other (or at least work together) and put the pieces of each mystery back together before a dangerous secret organization can have its way with them instead.
While Dungeons & Dragons might be the preeminent name in pen-and-paper role-playing in North America, it's not quite the same everywhere in the world. In Germany, The Dark Eye rivals D&D in popularity - even outselling the popular genre progenitor (or so claims Wikipedia). Now the series is making a jump into the world of point-and-click adventures, and judging by the screenshots already released, it might just be one of the prettiest adventure games to hit PC's this year.
With a cast of characters that look like a mix of a cyclops and de Blob, there's certainly no lack of cute and cuddly to be had from what we've seen of Gameday's Help Purple. Gameday isn't just offering us cute rainbow creatures on a silver platter, however. They're also giving the iPad and iPhone a new point and touch adventure.
This needs to be said right at the top and I promise I'm not overstating this... the animation in Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is GORGEOUS. Potentially the best I've ever seen in a videogame, let alone on an iOS device. It's stunning, and though it's all in cutscenes, every time characters start moving around I can feel my jaw slowly dropping. I could probably fill an entire review with how sharp it looks when it's in motion, and still not adequately convey how good Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective looks.
In Tiger Eye: The Sacrifice, the upcoming sequel to Curse of the Riddle Box, you'll once again step into the shoes of Dela, who has escaped from Beijing with her new love, the strong, yet mysterious Hari. Back in Dela's hometown of Rose Apple, California, you'll explore the normally quaint city streets as you realize that your escape hasn't gone unnoticed, and must find a way to break the curse an evil Magi has placed on Hari. Along the way, you'll also help save Dela's best friend who has been drawn into this fantastical web of drama. And oh yeah, don't forget that the mafia is after Dela as well, poor girl.
