Previous LEGO games, like LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars, have been surprisingly good, but the upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings looks like it might just be the one game to rule them all. We haven't seen much of it yet, but the screenshots and preview trailer look brilliant, with minifig representations of the entire Fellowship ("minifigs" is the official name of the famous little LEGO guys, by the way) and a big, blocky, not-at-all-mini version of the Balrog that caused so much trouble for the group on their way through Moria.
Naked Gun: I.C.U.P. is a crushing disappointment. As a long-time Police Squad fan, I was really looking forward to this videogame reincarnation of the classic comedy franchise. But the gameplay is dull and uninspired, it's plagued with bugs and worst of all, it's just not funny.
It's been argued that polished graphics are integral to an effective horror game. If you've ever played the original Clock Tower for the SNES, or Silent Hill for PS1, you know how untrue that is. Should you require even more proof (so needy!), look no further than indie PC title Home, a game that manages to bring on the scares with graphics not unlike what we saw in the 16-bit era.
Have you ever gone spelunking? Truth be told, I've always been a little too claustrophobic. That bummed me out for a while, but having dwelled on the matter more, I've come to terms with it. No cavern I ever explore in the real world will match the symbolism-laden, sentient cave debuting in the upcoming Double Fine-developed, Sega-published The Cave.

As an adventure game, The Journey Down: Chapter One hits all the right notes. It has plenty of charm and character, a mysterious story, an unlikely hero that gets wrapped up in things he doesn't understand, and puzzles that offer a perfect level of challenge, delivering a deeply satisfying "a-ha!" moment when solved. Oh - and did we mention that the game wraps all of this up in a uniquely African aesthetic?
