When I was a kid, Nintendo had the uncanny ability to make me an evangelist for genres I otherwise couldn't stand. I didn't like racing games, but played a mean Yoshi in Mario Kart. Likewise, I wanted nothing to do with planes until I got my hands on Star Fox 64. And while the Big N' refuses to bring its content to phones and tablets, a trailer for Psyonix's space shooter Arc Squadron has me thinking the studio may just be able to fill the nostalgia-sized hole in my heart.
There's no question G5 is aware of what makes a compelling game. With engaging titles like Special Enquiry Detail: Engaged to Kill, Supermarket Mania 2, and Virtual City 2 under their belt, I generally put faith in their ideas—including their recent decision to bring 1997's Pilot Brothers: After the Striped Elephant to iOS, as just Pilot Brothers. Unfortunately, this is one game they should have left in the past.
In Her Interactive's 27th installment in the Nancy Drew franchise, we see our master sleuth investigating a cold case in the equally cold mountains of Colorado. Locked away in a Tesla-inspired laboratory are secrets surrounding the murder of a brilliant scientist, killed by a device with which Nancy must become incredibly familiar with along the way. The hunt for clues is on.
It's always sad to see a romance come to a bitter end, especially when that romance was forged in adversary. Runaway, a classic PC adventure from 2001, made a splash with its boy-meets-girl (by accidentally hitting her with his car) story introduction, which rapidly swells into a tale about two star-crossed lovers running for their lives. Hidden Runaway for iOS re-visits that story, but now its main characters, Brian and Gina, are a bitter, separated couple.
Fighting Fantasy is the best-known franchise in the history of gamebooks, but its transition to interactive e-books has been poor. However Tin Man Games, purveyor of the fine Gamebook Adventures series, have now acquired the license. Their first offering in the series is an adaption of the latest Fighting Fantasy book, Blood of the Zombies, written by series co-founder Ian Livingstone.
Gamers who haven't summered in Vladivostok may not recognize the comical pair in G5 Entertainment's upcoming iOS adventure, Pilot Brothers. Despite enjoying reasonable fame in Russia as a Sherlock-and-Watson-inspired comic duo, our heroes—Chief and Colleague—are fairly unknown in the western hemisphere. That may quickly change with their upcoming point-and-tap iOS excursion.
Ten years ago, the PC adventure game Runaway: A Road Adventure brought Brian and Gina together, and then forced them both to run like hell from Mafia hitmen nipping at their heels. At least the time they spent together on the lam gradually melded them together as soul mates—for about a decade, give or take a year. It's 2012, Brian and Gina can't stand each other, and it's up to you to comb through their story and re-ignite the spark in Hidden Runaway, an upcoming adventure/hidden object game.
I... I'm writing this as a broken man. I've always done my best to give everyone a fair shake; to always do what I thought was best. I was never selfish, and without fail put myself in harm's way to protect others. But I reached a breaking point I didn't even know I had, and not by just a little bit, either. Now I'm here trying to put the shattered pieces back together after saying and doing things I can't take back, and this blood just won't wash off my hands so easily anymore.
