Yuri is a little bit Limbo and a little bit Mario, but its inspirations aren’t confined to the world of video games. The brainchild of multimedia artists the Potier brothers, Yuri contains also a hint of Tintin, and more than a dash of Where the Wild Things Are.

The little line-drawn Yuri of the title is named after Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. But rather than sending you into outer space the game sees you shrinking down and exploring a creepy fantastical world on an oddly portable bed (spoiler: we suspect it’s all a dream.)
It’s your job to navigate with Yuri through this dreamscape of jungles and caves, swinging on vines, exploring underground lakes filled with prehistoric fish, and hitching the odd ride on a passing frog or a spindle-legged spider.
Gameplay-wise, Yuri is a classic platformer that sees you jumping, swinging, and dodging for your life. It calls for fast reflexes and a steady hand across ten generous levels.
But that really makes this game stand out from the crowd is its exceptional art style. The character of Yuri has been around for more than a decade, appearing in comic strips and animated films before finally making the jump (pun intended) to the world of videogames.

Yuri is a labour of love for its creators, Ange and Aurélien Potier, two established artists who have turned their vision into an interactive universe that anybody can visit.
Well, anybody with an iOS device, a Mac, or Apple TV that is. Yuri is available on the App Store now for $2.99, with no in-app purchases.
