REDMAGIC 11S Pro [Hardware] – Is It Pro Level?
Some kind of (Red)magic?

REDMAGIC is one of the most prolific creators of new hardware catered for gamers, with smartphones being one of its most popular lines of products.
We’ve got our hands on the latest of these, the 11S Pro, and it’s not surprising that it lives up to our expectations. Let’s look into why that is, by and large, a very good thing indeed.
Opening it up
The REDMAGIC series of phones always has something interesting going on in terms of aesthetics, and the 11S Pro is no exception.
It leans heavily into the gamer look, with a transparent back that allows you to see into the device’s inner workings. Which is obviously very cool, and with the RGB lighting it goes all out to be eye-catching. If that’s your bag then this phone is already gone some way to working its way into your life.
There’s the circle shaped coolant system as part of this backplate too, and it lights up blue as it circulates. Again, this won’t be for everyone. But for those who love it it’s another invaluable “cool” touch.
Then there’s the actual buttons and inputs on the device, which follow the usual standards with a couple of exceptions. One is that it has shoulder buttons, and the second is that it has a headphone jack – both very rare to find on handhelds nowadays, but very welcome. There’s also a 7,500mAh charging port too, and reverse charging for other USB C devices.
How much power?

As you’d might expect the 11S Pro doesn’t hold back on sheer hardware power. Running the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Leading Version, our device also had 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage space.
The 2688×1216 144Hz screen also comes as standard, with the cooling features touched upon earlier truly exhaustive. There’s a vapour chamber and an active cooling fan, and we were impressed at how these worked when trying anything power sensitive.
For the more graphically intense games the 11S Pro managed to play them with no hiccups for example, and the phone didn’t turn into a bar of molten lava either – no matter how long we played. Not too shabby.
Then there’s the cameras, with a 50MP one on the back, a 16MP at the front, and another 50MP wide angle option. All offer the usual solid results, with some interesting extra modes such as a monocolour option that some will love to tinker with.
So it’s for gamers?

Yes, this is definitely a device for gamers, make no doubt about it. One obvious addition to cater for the gaming crowd is the Gaming Center – which you can access via an icon on the home screen or an actual dedicated button on the side of the device.
Pressing either sees you presented with a new user interface, which allows you to do several gamer friendly things.
There’s the chance to pick from your available games easily and quickly, as well as tweak the settings for each title. Considering that sometimes even small control issues can make a mobile title near unplayable nowadays this is something we found very welcome indeed. Other than this there’s a host of plug-ins available to help with your games in almost endless ways.
But there’s something else other than these features that REDMAGIC seem even happier with, and that’s its mascot Mora.
Mora is an anime girl who you can place on the phone’s home screen. She’s able to ask her any question, set an alarm (don’t miss these…trust us), and much more.
There’s no real need to have Mora around, but we think it’s safe to say that many gamers will enjoy the option of having her on your phone. We shall leave it at that.
Anything else?

Overall we were impressed again with another piece of kit from REDMAGIC. Although the 11S Pro isn’t a massive step forward from previous models it is clearly still superior in terms of performance and features.
So if you’re a model or two behind and love what REDMAGIC phones offer this is as safe a bet as they come. If you’re a mobile gamer and haven’t yet checked out a REDMAGIC device then this is a good place to start too. You can find it on the official website here.
The good
- Can play games with ease and no overheating
- Cool looking, especially for gamers
- Host of gamer friendly options
The bad
- Perhaps a little tacky in appearance for some
- Mora is a divisive inclusion
