Laser Quest (download from the App Store and Google Play Store) is a game about manipulating beams of light. There are orbs scattered around the architecture of each level and it’s up to you to light them up. Once you’ve done that, you move on to the next challenge.
There are a variety of objects that you can move to guide the laser beam. Turrets fire out the brightly colored line, and you can bounce it off prisms, send it through pipes and use it to smash bricks.
Other obstacles get in the way, and you need to push buttons and drag them around to clear a path. The levels start off small, but soon you’re dealing with multiple layers, loads of prisms and a whole bunch of orbs to light up.
You can swipe on the screen to change your view, but as things get more complex it can sometimes be difficult to see what’s going on. It’s never quite annoying enough to get frustrating, but sometimes it’s not perfectly clear what you need to do.
The game certainly looks impressive, taking its visual cues from the likes of Monument Valley. It doesn’t have the weight of that series though, either in terms of narrative or gameplay. That’s not to say that there isn’t fun to be had here, though.
While Laser Quest might not have the heft of some games, it’s still an entertaining experience. It’s simple enough that you can get to grips with it in no time whatsoever, and the levels are short enough that you can crack through a couple of them in a few minutes.
This isn’t a game that’s going to get under your skin, but it’s a decent way to pass some time and stretch your brain. Don’t expect too much from it and you’ll find a solid experience that you’re going to enjoy.
