Game capture devices used to be owned by a very lucky few – due to their price and the general difficulties you encounter when streaming or editing video content.

Nowadays everyone can be a streamer though. This is not always a good thing, but devices like the EZCast CatchU makes it even easier to cast gaming footage – it doesn’t even need to be connected to a desktop to work.

Aesthetically, it does the job. A black box boasting an array of ports on the back, it doesn’t seem a hugely accessible piece of kit for the average schmo at first glance – but in actuality it’s pretty simple to get to grips with.

4K pass-through, USB storage, and 1080p@60 ports are all present and correct – and cables insert securely, meaning no accidental and unwelcome hard drive removals happened while we were testing the device.

You can capture and stream footage in a range of ways, with the one that interested us the most – as a mobile loving site at heart – was the ability to stream directly from your smartphone. This was simple to do via our phone’s charging cable too.

In terms of quality and performance, we were pleased with what we found. Footage was stable and quality was of a good standard – not at the top end, but you’d have to pay a lot more for that.

Other than this, the usual streaming options are here. You can plug your own microphone in and use it, which worked well when using our trusted Blue Snowball.

There’s compatibility for nearly every console you can name too, and when we used the EZCast on capturing Switch footage – another system we’re fond of – everything we managed to stream was of a good quality with no frame-rate hitches or hiccups.

Ultimately EZCast CatchU does its job well as a capture device, but is at its best when streaming live footage – whether it be from a console, PC, or Smartphone.

The price of just over $150 makes this the perfect option for those looking to dip their toe into game streaming or capture too – although more experienced streamers may want to consider if this is a significant upgrade on their current set up.

If the above sounds like something that would fit into your streaming aspirations though you can order the device via Amazon US and Amazon UK – with a 10% off code available for US and UK users too, just use these codes:

US: 10Gamezebo
UK: 10Gamezebo
