The Binding of Isaac games have had some of the most interesting “will they or won’t they?” dynamics when it came to potential release for mobile. There have been numerous hints that a port or ports were happening, but nothing concrete about when they might arrive.
In those cases, the hope is that they just suddenly show up one day, which is exactly what just occurred. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in iOS form is very real and now live on the App Store. It’s also quite pricey for a mobile game at an initial price of $14.99.
It could still very well be worth your dough since the PC and console versions of this offbeat, randomly generated roguelike shooter were much loved by both critics and gamers. The story might not fly with everyone — it was rumored that Apple had issues with its violence toward children, as Isaac is trying to escape a mom who’s trying to kill him, and that delayed its migration to iOS — but if you appreciate dark humor, this game is full of it.
And where The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth underwent several expansions on PC, its mobile counterpart comes with tons of content right out of the gate, including 10 playable characters, hundreds of enemies, multiple save slots and more. Importantly, it also features controller support, which might be ideal for handling the game’s copious amounts of action. And poop. You’ll see what we mean.
All of this is a long-winded way of saying that Rebirth is the best kind of surprise release. Apple cautions that you need to be 17 or older to download it, but if you fit that description, it’s certainly something you’ll want to consider.
