Pokemon GO got an update this week. Was it the big new content update we’ve all been asking Santa for, one with trading and tons of other good stuff? Alas, it was not.

However, an argument can be made that it demonstrates how the people at Niantic are closely watching how the game operates at the moment, since it adjusted the Combat Power (CP) of various Pokemon. Yes, some of the pocket monsters got nerfed (made weaker) or buffed (made stronger), which is roughly akin to the moment Pinocchio learned he had become a real boy for any ongoing video game.

In a company blog post, Niantic specifically named Alakazam, Rhydon and Gengar as Pokemon that had been buffed while making only a general reference to others being nerfed. If only there was someone working on figuring out all of the characters affected …

Don’t be silly, of course there is! The members of The Silph Road subreddit have been on the case ever since the announcement, and while you can visit their thread for the latest, here’s who’s up and who’s down at the time of this post based on their research:

CP Increased

As noted in various places around the internets, it’s not like you’ll log in and find that the Pokemon in your collection have been instantly strengthened or weakened. Rather, the changes affect the way they develop when they level up, meaning they will see their stats increase more rapidly or slower than before, and the devs appear to have modified both the characters’ core stats and their special moves.

If you’re simply a casual Pokemon GO player, this update might not mean that much to you, but for people who log in daily and take part in frequent Gym battles, it’s potentially vital information. Check out that subreddit if you haven’t already, and here’s hoping your favorite Pokemon didn’t end up on the nerf list. Except for Wigglytuff, that is, who is one of everyone’s favorites.
