Noodles Hurts My Brain (in All the Right Ways)

With hundreds of games hitting the App Store every week, it’s not hard for a gem or two to fall under the radar. Such was the case last week with Noodles, the debut puzzle game from Toronto-based indie studio Lummox Labs.

Noodles is fairly simple in premise. Drawing inspirations from games like Pipe Dreams, you’ll need to rotate tiles in a way that makes lines connect. The difference here, though, is that Noodles offers up carefully crafted puzzles where you’ll need to connect every line. And it’s fiendishly hard.

As of this writing, I’ve been playing Noodles on and off for a week and am still stuck at 59% completion in the tutorial levels. If you’re as bad at Noodles as I am, you’ll be relieved to know that there are 7 different level packs in all, and each can be started at any time.

Stuck in one? Move on to another. (Of course, you’ll probably get stumped pretty quickly there too.)

If you’re looking for a puzzle game that you can obsess over — not because it’s carefully crafted to keep you playing, but because damned near every level is a monumental mental challenge — Noodles is a game you need to have in your life.
