Happymagenta’s Wingy Pop Flies Onto iOS With One-Touch Style

By Nick Tylwalk |

Happymagenta has rocked our worlds before with titles like Tomb of the Mask and  Joan Mad Run, so when the fine people there tell us they have a new game coming out, we do the sensible thing and go check it out. Wingy Pop is that new game, and after just a few minutes with its frantic arcade action, consider us intrigued.

The set-up for Wingy Pop is something like Joust, for those of you old enough to remember that classic, with a vertical layout and a swiftly flowing river at the bottom of the screen instead of lava. A series of eggs falls down the platforms above, and your bird character needs to ensure none of them fall into the water.

The challenge in doing so is baked into the game mechanics. Wingy Pop is truly one-touch, as all you have to do is tap the screen to make the bird jump, which you can do multiple times if you need him to go higher. The trick is that once he hits an obstacle, he immediately changes directions and heads the other way. That means if you don’t time your jumps exactly right, you’ll need to run him into something quickly so he goes back the way you want him to go.

Did we mention there are enemy birds in there too? It gets hectic pretty fast, and the idea is to see how long you can keep everything going before something ends up in the water. The game also has new characters to unlock, power-ups to master, stickers, weekly tournaments and more, so there seems to be plenty to keep you hooked if you dig the basic concepts.

Wingy Pop is free to download from the App Store and is live right now, so if you need something else to frustrate you while also making it fun at the same time, you might want to flap over and check it out.
