Free Realms Review
By role playing
The approach of Free Realms - a casual massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game from Sony Online Entertainment, is a simple and familiar one: pack as much free content into as friendly-looking a package as possible and sell upgrades, unlocks and items for real money off the back of that initial experience. The obvious hope is that you'll become enamoured enough with the free portions of the game to pony up for advantages and privileges against other players, and Free Realms has plenty of content put aside for those who are prepared to pay.R.I.F.T. Review
By Jim Squires
Everybody loves cake, and nowhere does this seem more apparent than in the world of video games. From Portal to Cake Mania to Rabbit Wants Cake and everything in between, well-frosted deliciousness clearly seems to be a good motivator for gamers. In R.I.F.T., the latest browser game from Blacksmith Games, you'll fill the shoes of a lowly robot that brings pretty pink cakes to his master in level after level of puzzle platforming goodness.Achievement Unlocked Review
By Erin Bell
Today's parents have been accused of coddling their children too much, leading to a false sense of entitlement and self-satisfaction. Achievement Unlocked is a Web game that not only seems to poke fun at this dubious trend, but also at the obsession that certain gamers have with earning "achievements" - those special badges and trophies that are awarded for passing certain in-game milestones. To fend off potential feelings of inadequacy, Achievement Unlocked doles out a ridiculously high number of achievements for performing the most mundane and mindless of "tasks."Graveyard Shift Review
By Jim Squires
Halloween is the time of year when all the ghouls and goblins come out to play, but where can we turn when we want to play games with all the goblins and ghouls? Thanks to flash developer Nitrome the answer can be found without ever having to leave your browser. Graveyard Shift puts you in charge of a one man Halloween death squad, and we can honestly say that doing battle with the things that go bump in the night has rarely been this much fun.Rabbit Wants Cake Review
By Jim Squires
Rabbit sure wants that cake, and who can blame him? As a robotic rabbit, he'll need you to help him reach that delectable desert. But you won't be guiding this little bunny first hand -- instead you'll need to map out his route for him, telling him which way to go and when. Can you record the right moves into the robot rabbits programming to help him get that yummy cake?Penny Dreadfuls: Sweeney Todd Review
If you're a fan of musicals, you probably already know the basic gist of hidden object game Penny Dreadfuls: Sweeney Todd: An insane barber kills people, then hands them off to his girlfriend to be baked into pies. As one of London's finest, it's your job to track him down and solve the case, but you'll need to sort out the clues, first. It all starts out normally enough as you're called in to locate a sailor who's gone missing As a policeman, it makes sense that you'd be scouring the area for clues, which is where the hidden object hunting comes in. Working from a list, you'll have to find era-appropriate items in such intriguing locations as an insane asylum, Guttersnipe Alley, and the local pawn shop.Cassandra’s Journey 2: The Fifth Sun of Nostradamus Review
By Alicia Ashby
Skeptics have tried to debunk his prophecies for centuries, but the popularity of Nostradamus still endures. His uncanny ability to predict the future (or to appear to do so) has long captured the popular imagination. Cassandra's Journey 2: The Fifth Sun of Nostradamus plays masterfully off of this fascination, re-imagining Nostradamus as a psychic guide who will help you prevent the end of the world by seeking out hidden objects, playing mini-games, and solving riddles.Where’s Waldo?: The Fantastic Journey Review
Well, it's about time. The hottest casual game genre on the planet pretty much owes its success to the Where's Waldo books that challenge kids to search for and find well-hidden objects in a busy scene. And now, years later, we have the first Where's Waldo "hidden-object game" (HOG) for PCs and iPhone -- Where's Waldo: The Fantastic Journey is based on the beloved book series by British illustrator Martin Handford. (Factoid: the first book was called Where's Wally?, in 1987). So does this new HOG live up to its influential namesake? Yes it does, though it's not a perfect adventure.
