Better than Portal Review
By Nadia Oxford
Like every other form of creative expression, video games deserve to be rated according to the quality of their contents instead of their names. That said, when you title your game "Better than Portal," you're inviting weighty judgment against your work. Sure enough, Better than Portal is an empty boast. The game doesn't touch Valve's hallowed puzzle platformer, and in fact it's a dismal experience altogether.Max’s Pirate Planet Review
By Nadia Oxford
Yo ho ho and a bottle of pop. What kid (or adult) doesn't dream of a rogue's life on the high sea? Max's Pirate Planet - A Board Game Adventure is a board game-style title that gives players a whole planet to play pirate on. Youngsters will have a great time, though their parents may quickly become bored with the tedious mini-games.Empress of the Deep 3: Legacy of the Phoenix Review
By John Anthony
Wake up, Empress Anna! Time to stop your evil twin sister again! Empress of the Deep 3: Legacy of the Phoenix from Silverback Games continues the tale from the first two installments of the series, with the malevolent Pandora harnessing the power of the Colossus and threatening to destroy the world. With the help of the guardians, though, you can resurrect the Phoenix and find your lost tribe. Who knew sibling rivalry could be so destructive?Zoombies: Animales de la Muerte! Review
Things have gone south for the Monopoly Man since he went south of the border. The apocalypse has begun at his Mexican zoo, with animals once on the endangered species list now part of the undead horde. Like any good corporation, the zookeeper has enlisted the help of immigrant children to do his dirty work. Fortunately for you, that dirty work is quite a lot of fun.Haunted Hollow Review
By Nick Tylwalk
Why should the monsters have all the fun? "They shouldn't," is the correct answer to that question. In Haunted Hollow, now really and truly released on iOS by Firaxis and 2K Games, you get to share in the fun by building your own haunted house and unleashing monsters on an unsuspecting town: only someone else is trying to beat you to the punch in this fun and accessible, if slightly shallow strategy title.Shiver: Moonlit Grove Review
The myth of the werewolf is centuries old: an idea that taps into our most primal fears. Perhaps that's why no matter how many times the theme is utilized, we continue to be drawn to it. Shiver: Moonlit Grove, the new hidden object adventure by Artogon Games does its best to take advantage of this transformational, often tragic, theme—however its efforts are undermined by poorly-done cinematics and weak storytelling.Dark Avenger Review
By Alex De Vore
Diablo has influenced a large number of dungeon-crawling loot-fests that, while sometimes marginally entertaining, have never really been able to match the sheer scope of the PC classic. But as the iOS gaming experience grows more refined, so too do the options for mobile hack 'n' slash experiences. Some of these titles (Dungeon Hunter or Castle Master 3D)aren't half bad, either. No, they're not as huge as their PC or console cousins, but this is only to be expected of the medium, and there is still plenty of fun to be had. The recently released RPG Dark Avenger follows in these footsteps, and is packed with quite a bit more content than you might expect from a F2P title.CandyMeleon Review
By David Oxford
CandyMeleon is the type of game which feels like it would have been right at home in arcades in the early 80s, but with graphics and sound a bit more befitting a contemporary title. The premise of the game is that you are in control of a cartoon chameleon with a craving for candy, and one who has a bit of swagger in his walk at that. Fortunately, as he walks through the woods, candy is in abundance, and your goal is to catch as much of it as possible: either by tilting your device left or right to move, or by tapping the screen to flick his long, sticky tongue skyward.
