Papa Sangre II is bringing the scares this Halloween
By Joe Jasko
Just in time for Halloween this year, Somethin Else has officially announced the release of Papa Sangre II, a follow-up to their incredibly unique audio horror game Papa Sangre that gave new meaning to the haunting bumps and thumps that we hear in the night.Told entirely through the use of sound, Papa Sangre II begins once you, yourself, are already dead. That's right, as the game's description tells us: "There is no App Store, there is no iPhone and there is no game called Papa Sangre." However, death for you is only the start of your harrowing journey, as you'll need to hunt for memories from the other deceased in order to propel yourself back to the side of the living."All in all, Papa Sangre II is set to feature 18 levels of pure "audio only" horror survival, all centered around the chilling Museum of Memories. You will flee from monsters, avoid traps, and even shoot some ducks - all by only using your ears! But now it's time to tell you about the greatest new feature of Papa Sangre II: the fact that you'll be guided throughout your entire adventure by a narrator played by Sean Bean of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones fame. I guess it's kind of a comforting thought to have Ned Stark himself keep you company through your blind descent into this dark and maddening world.Cut the Rope 2 is coming this holiday season
By Joe Jasko
Get your sweet tooth ready, because there's going to be a whole lot of candy in your immediate future. After doing countless scientific experiments and spending the last year travelling through space and time, the candy-loving Om Nom is set to return once more this holiday season, in a full-fledged sequel to the original physics-based puzzle game, Cut the Rope. That's right: Cut the Rope 2 is on the way!Cut the Rope 2 is said to completely re-imagine the universe of cute green alien On Nom that mobile gamers have come to know and love so well, as new gameplay twists, characters, and interactive environments are all being added. And coming on the heels of the recent success of On Nom Stories, a series of episodic video adventures released by ZeptoLab on YouTube and serving as a tie-in of sorts to the apps themselves, Cut the Rope 2 will also feature an engaging storyline amidst all of the candy-eating, puzzle-based gameplay."New iOS Games Tonight: Trouserheart, Pocket Trains and more!
By Joe Jasko
Wouldn't it be cool if there was some way we could actually visit the many vast and wonderful places that we experience in our favorite mobile games from day to day? Maybe it's just me, but a lot of those fantasy worlds seem to have a lot more going for them than the dull suburban streets sitting right outside my window. All of tonight's new mobile games have been specifically designed to take you to some fascinating places: whether that means a bright cartoony kingdom where a boxer-wearing warrior is nothing out of the norm; a twisted fairytale world where all of your favorite characters have a screw or two loose; or even a blinking and exhilarating neon world where jumping is the difference between success and a never-ending fall.Game Insight reveals new endless runner, The Running Shadow
By Joe Jasko
Game Insight is getting ready to take the endless runner genre to the next shadowy level with The Running Shadow: a game about quick and fluid running, and gorgeously spooky Gothic environments. Hey, the "Shadow" in the game's title isn't for nothing, after all! What's unique about this one is that The Running Shadow is said to combine the now-traditional fast-paced action of an endless runner game with the deep and engrossing upgrade system of a classic RPG; not to mention an invigorating 3D combat system! In the game, players will get to explore the dark fantasy world of Adrion, as they interact with more than 20 different characters, and help to rid the realm from all kinds of cruelty and injustice."Featuring a deep and expansive storyline (especially for an endless runner game!), players will take control of various members of the "Brotherhood of Shadows," a secret organization that has its own incentives for taking to the rooftops and shallow pits of Adrion: namely, for looting valuable treasure! The Running Shadow will be debuting first exclusively on Android in the near future, with other mobile platform support to follow shortly after, which I think is pretty safe to assume will include iPhone and iPad.Multiple Steam machines coming in 2014
By Joe Jasko
On Monday we told you that Valve would be dishing out its very own operating system called SteamOS, with the promise of being able to run on any "living room machine." Well now we finally have some sort of idea as to what those mysterious living room machines will be, as Valve shed some light today on the proverbial "Steam Box." And as it turns out, it looks like we'll have multiple Steam boxes to look forward to in the New Year. There will reportedly be several different models of Steam gaming machines to choose from, and if the artwork on the official announcement page is anything to go by, then it looks like you'll have your choice from a variety of different colored and rectangular-shaped hardware. There's no word yet on what kinds of specific factors will differentiate the various models of the Steam machine, other than being made by different manufacturers, but Valve promises more information on this very soon (as well as a screenshot of what the actual prototype will look like in person!)."All of the upcoming Steam machine models will be running on the new SteamOS operating system once they're released to the masses sometime in 2014. However, there's also a chance that you could be one of the very lucky few who will be chosen to test out a new Steam box as early as this year! Valve will be shipping out a limited run of 300 free Steam boxes before 2013 is over, so players have a chance to test it out and provide Valve with valuable feedback about the new system, as well as SteamOS.Replay Wednesdays: Solstice Arena, Greedy Grub and more!

By Joe Jasko
For all the anxious Android owners out there who have been patiently waiting all summer to get their hands on the highly anticipated release of PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time, we might finally have an answer as to what's been taking so long. Allegedly, Apple has been paying PopCap to intentionally delay the Android release of the game, in order to extend the window of iOS exclusivity for PvZ 2 that Apple has been enjoying ever since the game's official worldwide launch this past August.Giant Bomb broke the news of this interesting piece of information earlier this morning, after watching an "internal town hall meeting" for Electronic Arts. During the presentation, head of EA Labels Frank Gibeau was reported as saying "Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version [of Plants vs. Zombies 2]." The game in question has only been released on Android devices in China so far, where it is said to currently be outselling the iOS version by "six-to-one" in that specific market."It should also be noted that paid exclusivity deals are not all that uncommon in the competitive games industry, with most big releases on home gaming consoles getting some form of extra content that is exclusive to a single company for a predetermined amount of time. What is intriguing is that Apple now seems to be taking a much more aggressive approach in its own gaming deals against the competing Google platform, and that this same kind of industry competition has now seeped its way into the mobile games space.Gaining insight into Game Insight: A conversation with CEO Alisa Chumachenko
By Nick Tylwalk
It's a tale everyone has heard before: woman plays a lot of MMOs, joins a gaming start-up with some of the members of her guild, and eventually leaves to head up her own multinational mobile/social gaming company.Actually, maybe the story of Alisa Chumachenko isn't a very common one. But while the CEO and founder of Game Insight may not have taken the usual route to the executive level of the industry, that doesn't mean she has any less insight (no pun intended) into where mobile and social games are headed. In fact she might have more than most people because of the way Game Insight has had to shift focus in its three years of existence. Though its original aim was to create casual titles like city builders and hidden object games online, the state of social gaming during the company's infancy forced it to switch gears quickly to tackle the mobile market.
