Forget lumber, coal, or the milk of human kindness - Twitter is our greatest national resource. For many of us, it's where we go to find out what's really going on in the world. Not only is it the place where the news can break, but it's the place where news can happen. Even better, it's the place where we can interact with the newsmakers of the day directly. As always, there were plenty of great tweeters to follow in 2013. But five in particular gave us some pretty specific tweets that we're always going to remember, and each for very different reasons. Were there any tweets that stood out as a big deal in your mind this year? Let us know in the comments below, or, better yet, tweet us @gamezebo with your thoughts. Let's keep this thing in the Twitter spirit!
If you thought our picks for #20-#16 were great, wait until you see what we've picked to outrank them. Today's best of list features a healthy mix of puzzling, strategy, timing, and… zombies? Oh well - I suppose it wouldn't be a video game top 20 without a little zombie in there. After all, our 2012 Game of the Year was all about them!As we count down our favorite games of the year, we'd love for you to play along at home. Like our picks? Trying something new based on our recommendations? Have a "best of 2013" list of your own? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
The end of the year is always a time of reflection for us here at Gamezebo, as we think back on all of the wonderful new gaming experiences that made the last 12 months such a blast to game through. But let's be honest: all of these amazing video games wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the many technologies that are made to run them on! And as our beloved community moves even deeper into the digital age, those new gaming technologies only get more advanced and futuristic (and by default, more insanely awesome). So we decided that it would only be fitting to take a look back at some of the greatest new technologies of gaming that were introduced on the market in 2013. From a full-fledged 3D virtual reality gaming helmet, to a Minority Report-like device that lets you game with in-air gestures, to the first home-based console that would bring Android-powered gaming to your TV screen, it's clear that we've come quite a long way from the simple days of Pong. So without further ado, here are the 5 pieces of new tech that we thought were particularly great in 2013."
We're really in the homestretch of 2013 now, and it's been quite a good year for those of us in the gaming world. Don't believe me? Then you should probably check out our ongoing lists of what we thought were the very best games to come out over the last 12 months. But just because we're knee-deep in all of this gaming reflection, that doesn't mean we're not also looking ahead to see what awesome new games that 2014 is going to bring! If 2014 winds up being even half as great as 2013 was for gaming, then I think it's safe to say that we're going to be in for some truly unforgettable experiences in the very near future: but something tells me that 2014 is going to be even better. After all, when you've got new games from both the makers of Super Meat Boy and Bastion coming up on the horizon, how can it not be anything short of glorious? So in that case, here are a few of the biggest games that we absolutely cannot wait to play in 2014."
If 2013 proved anything to us, it's this: video games get better every year. For our year-end retrospective, we decided that we'd try something different this year: we'd pick the top 20 games from everything we covered this year to select the very best. But the list was too good to contain it to just twenty games. So with the year 2013 coming to a close, we thought it fitting to select the best 20+13 games. We're still going to count down the top twenty - but before we do, we wanted to mention thirteen tremendously good games that were deserving of your attention this year. They didn't quite make the top 20, but if there's a single game in our +13 you've missed, now's the time to fix that.
There has been a lot of talk in the west about virtual casino games in the last few years. Some developers are trying their luck at real money gambling games in the UK. Others are hedging their bets in the hopes of a potential change in US gambling laws. But while we keep playing the 'will they/won't they' game over here, China is dealing with gambling games in its own way: in short, they don't allow it.As always, our news out of China comes to us courtesy of our friends at the Beijing-based Laohu.com. Be sure to give them a read if you're looking for daily coverage of the Chinese games market - they definitely know their stuff.
They say that the holidays are a time for everyone's generosity to come out and play. Whether that means buying everyone in your family mountains of presents, or simply letting someone move in front of you in line, it's clear that everyone is in a rather giving mood this time of year. And I don't know about you, but there's no gift I'd rather receive that a shiny new and discounted game!As far as gaming sales are concerned this week, why, the biggest internet storefronts might as well be charitable organizations themselves, because the amount of price cuts we've seen going on right now is generous to the extreme. From massive deals that spread all across the App Store, visiting the Humble Bundle camp, and then finishing big with the annual Steam Holiday sale, there are plenty of great games to buy for your loved ones while still saving enough cash to pick up a bunch more for yourself!"And since sharing is almost just as good as giving these days, please don't forget to share with us any other great deals that we may have missed this week down in the replies!
We've been salivating for more information ever since Game Insight first announced their fierce new endless runner with a dark overtone this past September. The biggest draw of Running Shadow is that the game aims to take that recognizable endless runner gameplay and infuse it together with core role playing elements: all set against the dismal, yet beautiful backdrop of a Gothic-themed world. So basically, it's pretty much the closest we'll ever get right now to playing a Castlevania endless runner. But that was back when we only had a few measly screenshots to look at. Now a long-awaited gameplay trailer has finally entered the fold…Actually seeing the game in action for the first time, everything about The Running Shadow's mysterious and, well, shadowy lore immediately makes perfect sense. You'll be speeding your way through foreboding castle interiors and dodging all sorts of deadly gauntlet traps like rows of spikes or fire columns. You'll be encountering the fiercest of foes, from dastardly mages to ax-wielding knights. And of course, you'll be running along a crumbling stone bridge with some ominous talons gripping at the edge.So needless to say, we're more than a little stoked to make our way through The Running Shadow's gorgeously stylized world. The game is currently slated to launch on iOS and Android platforms sometime in early 2014, and in the meantime you can check out the game's newly launched website for some more Gothic fun!
