Ubisoft bringing Wii U titles to tablets, smartphones
By Dant Rambo
It's easy to take it for granted, but this is one of the most exciting times in the game industry. Case in point, the announcement that Ubisoft will be porting Wii U titles to smartphones and tablets. It's true that companies have been porting console games to mobile platforms for years now, but this particular reveal is interesting in light of the current gaming climate. There's big money in the mobile market, and Ubisoft is using that to leverage the costs of developing for consoles.5 things that didn’t happen at Microsoft’s E3 press event (but should have)
By Jim Squires
E3 week kicked off earlier today with the annual Microsoft press conference, though if we're being frank, it didn't really set a great tone for the next year in video games. Maybe I'm just getting old, but everything they showed felt like more of the same. More Halo, more Gears of War, more Fable - more… well, everything.Brave New World: Imangi Studios, Disney, and the branding of Temple Run [interview]

The number of games on mobile devices now numbers in the hundreds of thousands. But break that down to the games that really matter - the games that everybody plays and that never seem to wear out their welcome - and that list gets considerably smaller. Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Jetpack Joyride - they'd all make the cut. And yet, it's the endless running of adventurer Guy Dangerous that has seemed on the tip of everybody's tongue for the last six months.A Capital Idea: Ottawa Game Conference showcases talent, excitement
By Jim Squires
When people think of gaming conferences, they tend to think of events like GDC, WWDC, or Casual Connect. Canada, it would seem, is the furthest thing from their minds. In fact, with the exception of the Montreal International Games Summit (and the somewhat smaller DIG conference in London Ontario), there really isn't a single annual show where Canadian developers can get together to discuss their craft. Earlier this week, the number of great Canadian game conferences just grew by one, with the debut of the Ottawa Game Conference.Games of the Month – May 2012
By Jim Squires
Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here. Oh, wait! That's because it's May! That's right folks - spring has fully sprung, the temperatures are up, and summer weather is right around the corner. But while you've been outside playing in your garden, you've missed a ton of great games. How great? Really great. And if you don't believe me, check out our picks for Games of the Month below!Replay Wednesdays: Fieldrunners, Nightclub City and more!
By Jim Squires
We cover plenty of new games here at Gamezebo every week, but the number of games we've already covered that show up on new platforms? It's staggering. Starting this Wednesday and continuing every week, we'll be rounding up the games that aren't quite new, but might be new to you depending on your platform of choice.Seven small developers we’d like to hear more from
It's hard not to root for the little guy. A couple decades ago, and it'd be near-impossible for a game developer to obtain creation tools without working under a large established team. Today, with several more tools for development than ever, and creator-controlled price points on services like the App Store, Google Play, and Steam have allowed fantastic independent creations to exist. The Merlion plays tonight in Singapore
By Joel Brodie
I learned two things while at Casual Connect:Singapore last week. One, Singapore was founded by an Indonesian prince who believed he encountered a Merlion, a half lion-half mermaid creature. Which, if you have ever been to Singapore, you would know that there is less of a chance of a lion roaming the hot and humid island than a mermaid swimming in its busy port waters. And two, the game development industry is booming in this small island 3 times the size of Washington DC.What accounts for this growth? The answer is geography and bureaucracy.
