5 Canadian games we’re thankful for
By Jim Squires
It seems like Canada is first a lot these days. A lot of mobile game companies release their games on Apple's App Store in Canada first, and then in the US and globally in order to test and get the bugs out. And Canada has always been first to celebrate Thanksgiving, a full month before it is celebrated in the United States. The birds you’re looking for: Rovio’s Star Wars toys revealed!
By Eli Cymet
It was just this past Friday that we reported on Rovio's tantalizing teaser for an upcoming announcement in New York City. An announcement happening seven hours from now, involving Toys'R'Us and Star Wars. Thanks to the crack investigative journalism of the Gamezebo news team, and a stolen time machine, we've managed to uncover the details of Angry Birds' next merchandising move. Wait, what? This just in: I'm getting word it wasn't a time machine that helped us...it was the internet.Pig Out: 5 games that escape the bacon shortage
By Eli Cymet
Last week, fear spread around the web - and the world - about something many of us hold dear to our hearts. The environment? The election? Who are you kidding!? I'm talking about bacon. Specifically, the impending 2013 shortage of it due to destroyed corn and soybean crops. I know. Even bringing it up again is a travesty. How Zynga can get its groove back
By Joel Brodie
Zynga pre-announced yesterday weaker than expected earnings for the third quarter, which follows a previously horrible second quarter. Zynga's new game The Ville underperformed, it had to write off $90 million from the OMGPOP Draw Something acquisition, CEO Mark Pincus may have hinted at layoffs in an internal memo, and people are leaving (the founding creators behind Words with Friends are the latest two). The stock has dropped today to $2.30 a share (far below the $10/share IPO price).Angry Birds Tumblr page teases Star Wars toy partnership
By Eli Cymet
A long time ago, in a Rovio far, far away...hm. Doesn't have the same ring to it, does it? Don't worry though, you'll have plenty of time to get used to the sentiment, as it seems that the company is about to kick off a huge partnership with LucasArts and the Star Wars brand.Sony launches PlayStation Mobile for Android (and Vita!)
By Eli Cymet
As if the party weren't crowded enough, folks, say hello to another app store. Last night, Sony launched their long-time-coming PlayStation Mobile service for "PlayStation Certified" Android devices and PlayStation Vita. In a newly launched section of their website branded with the moniker "Take Back Mobile Gaming," the company has also gone on to explain the ethos behind PSM, and reveal the slate of available titles.Games I Can’t Believe Don’t Exist Yet
I know that many developers these days are focused on "creativity," "ingenuity," and other -ity words that don't necessarily involve making boatloads of cash. But that doesn't mean there aren't other game creators out there, waiting for the next big thing that will allow them to retire to their floating fortress made of dodo eggs. So, potential gold-smoothie-drinking-quadrillionaire, why don't these games exist yet? A few might actually even be…fun. Is Pac-Man getting a Pac-Makeover?
By Jim Squires
A few years back, it seemed like Namco couldn't put Pac-Man's face on new games fast enough. From cool multiplayer experiences like Battle Royale to the seemingly inevitable pairing with pizza in Pac-Man Pizza Parlor, video games' first real mascot seemed to have a new release coming out on a monthly basis.
