Zen Studios has inked a deal with Lucasarts to create 10 Star Wars pinball tables, the first three of which will be released later this month. By Joe Jasko
Amazon has announced a new kind of virtual currency this morning, called Amazon Coins, which will be exclusive to the company's Kindle Fire devices. The new currency will let customers shop in the Amazon Appstore, and make in-app purchases for their favorite Kindle Fire games. So now Kindle Fire owners will be able to use their real money to buy virtual money, and then use that virtual money to buy other virtual forms of game-specific currency. Convoluted? Perhaps, but Amazon Coins is the latest in line of exciting new features the company is pushing towards for its mobile department, including Game Circle, a Game Center-like service with Global Leaderboards and Achievements.OUYA console coming soon to a store near you

The folks behind the OUYA announced earlier today that the Android-based console will be available later this year in select retail locations. This comes as a bit of a surprise given its origins on Kickstarter, but it's good news all the same. Developers will likely have a wider audience to peddle their wares to, and those who missed out on the Kickstarter can pick up the console without much trouble.Big Fish Games’ mobile adventure Fetch exhibited in Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry

It seems like every day, more and more people begin to realize the commercial success and unlimited potential of the mobile games industry. And with those realizations come the big business moves that make them all the more powerful. Kongregate, a powerhouse in browser gaming, has announced the creation of a "Kongregate Mobile Developers" program, which will pledge 10 million dollars to the development of mobile games. The funding will help indie game developers work on free-to-play titles for the company, and add a better management of paid ad campaigns on third-party networks.Swimming Against the Current: Moving from Video Game to Board Game Design
I am a video game designer. Or at least, I was. A few weeks ago I made a seemingly giant leap: from the profitable, growing-like-wildfire world of free-to-play digital games to the low-profit-margin world of board games. I left my awesome job at PopCap Games working with creative, talented people to pursue my life-long passion. Developing board games is still dark and mysterious to me, but I've found that what I've learned from building video games can shed some light on this new world.Games of the Month – January 2013
