Biggest News Stories of 2011
A lot can happen in a year. New games come and go, development studios and publishers are formed and shuttered, and people leave our lives forever. As part of our Best of 2011 series, today we're taking a look at the biggest news to hit the casual games industry all year, covering everything from Angry Birds to Zynga (though excluding some of the huge acquisitions, which we've covered previously). From games blowing up to companies going public amidst waves of hype and interest, these are the five biggest news stories of the year.

Over the last few weeks, we've looked at the best of everything that we cover here at Gamezebo. Facebook, iPhone, iPad, Android, Browser - pretty much everything. Well... everything except PC games. It’s not really Christmas without an Angry Birds lights display
Tis' the season to be jolly, bit tis' also the season for Christmas light displays on YouTube. Over the years, we've seen every kind of crazy, sync'd to Beethoven's 5th, hundred thousand light display you can imagine - or so we'd thought. This year though, the folks behind 2009's awesome Guitar Hero lights display have decided to tackle everyone's favourite avian assailants.
Direct2Drive and GameFly Join Forces, Form Evil Alliance
Back in May, GameFly acquired Direct2Drive from IGN, which made a lot of people wonder what the future contained for the two services. Well, GameFly has finally revealed the answer: Direct2Drive is being merged with GameFly, so now you can pre-order, rent, buy, and download your games all from one source.

GamersGate to expand global reach with New York office
PC/Mac portal GamersGate has announced plans to expand its global team by opening a new office in New York in early 2012. The announcement comes on the heels of a successful fiscal year for the digital portal, which saw 50% sales growth in 2011. Void, GamersGate's ad-supported free games platform, is set to launch in 2012 as well.
