    Along with death and taxes, the only other certainty in life is that casual gamers love farming. It's a good thing too, because otherwise Zynga's FarmVille 2: Country Escape would be showing up unfashionably late to a party the company started itself with FarmVille back in the halcyon days of Facebook gaming. As it is, this fully mobile installment has much improved graphics and a fair bit of charm, but at the expense of the creative freedom that made the original such a monster hit.This is the part where I'd usually go into the setting and object of the game, but this one should require little explanation. You've got a family farm to fix up, so you've got to get busy growing crops and harvesting resources from plants and animals, most of which can be crafted into more complicated and lucrative products at the appropriate stations: the dairy churns out milk products, the windmill can grind grain into flour, etc.

    To be blunt, Tears for Fears got it wrong. I wouldn't want to rule the world in its current state. It's just too much hassle. Now if I could do it in the style of a James Bond villain, well, that's a different story. Evil Genius Online helps you do just that, assembling an army of henchmen and an array of cool gizmos fit for global domination. It's all done with a wink, helping elevate what is otherwise a pretty average social game experience.If that opening paragraph gave you thoughts of Gru from the first Despicable Me or the Monarch from Venture Bros., you're on the right track. That's if you didn't play the original Evil Genius, the PC game released back in 2004. In any case, Evil Genius Online gives you an abandoned government silo, an ambitious assistant named Penny Foxworth and a couple of Minions to get your career as a criminal mastermind underway.

    While the original CastleVille fits snuggly in the history of Zynga's Ville games as the spiritual successor to The Pioneer Trail, CastleVille Legends sets out to be something ambitiously new. Designed from the ground up for mobile, Legends is more a game of trading and economics than it is a medieval life simulator.If that description scares you off, don't worry - much of Legends will feel like a familiar experience to the Zynga faithful. The nuts and bolts that bring the game together (crafting, quests, etc) are things that you're already doing in other games. The trick, though, is that these elements come together in Legends in a way that creates something we haven't seen before in a Zynga title.If we were to break CastleVille Legends down to its base mechanics, it would probably look something like this: creating resources, crafting those resources into products, and selling those products for fun and profit.On paper, I admit it sounds a little like FarmVille 2. But the execution here feels markedly different.
