    Indie studio Wadjet Eye Games (the Blackwell series) has finally come out of stealth mode about its super secret PlayFirst project. The two companies are collaborating on Wadjet Eye Games' first fully-funded adventure game, Emerald City Confidential.According to Wadjet Eye Games:The magical land of Oz is put through the gritty filter of 1940s film noir.  Harsh city streets, grey rainy skies, femme fateles, tough guys, trenchcoats, fedoras and plot twists.  It's Oz, seen through the eyes of Raymond Chandler.

    Wadjet Eye Games has just announced the next title in the Blackwell series of adventure games, starring psychic medium Rosangela Blackwell and her ghostly spirit guide, Joey Mallone.In The Blackwell Convergence, which is set after the events of The Blackwell Legacy, Rosangela has quit her job at the Village Eye newspaper to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time author by writing about her experiences helping the ghosts of Manhattan.

    Everything seems to be retro these days - from afros to disco to Alvin and the Chipmunks. So why shouldn't classic PC adventure games make a return in 2008? You know, those point-and-click stories from the '90s like Sierra's King's Quest or LucasArts' Monkey Island games, where your 2-D hero talks with characters, picks up items to store in their inventory and solves puzzles such as using a found key on a locked door. Well, thanks to talented developers at Wadjet Eye Games and their Blackwell series, what's old is new again - right down to the pixilated graphics and branching dialogue trees. While some might be turned off by this approach, Gamezebo found last year's The Blackwell Legacy a fun, refreshing and kitschy experience.

    The Blackwell Legacy is a bit of a departure from the kind of games Gamezebo usually reviews, but the mature story - about a psychic medium and her "spirit guide" investigating cases of unhappy ghosts - had us intrigued, as did the retro two-dimensional art style that made us fondly recall classic adventure games like King's Quest and Quest for Glory. Rosangela Blackwell is a struggling author living in New York city who reviews books for the local newspaper to make ends meet. Her life is changed forever when she's paid a visit by Joey Mallone, a ghostly hanger-on inexplicably tied to female members of the Blackwell family, who are the only living people who can see him. From then on, Joey is Rosangela's constant companion.
