    Since I've started playing it, I've heard countless theories on how to best the endlessly twisting geometric minefield of Super Hexagon. Keep your eyes on the outer edges of the screen to  stay ahead of incoming walls. Avoid staring at the rotating background. Make sure to stare at the rotating background. In truth, though, it's all heresay. There's only one thing you need to do for certain in this retro-tinged thunderdome. Only one strategy: avoid everything.

    When it comes to ushering retro sensibilities into the modern age, few people out there pull it off quite as well as Terry Cavanagh. While some developers implement an 8- or 16-bit look and call it a day, Cavanagh digs deeper and creates games that capture the overall feel of classic video games. He does this by making his games profoundly hard, as evidenced by VVVVVV (that's six v's). Super Hexagon is taking that same whole hog approach, meaning you just might end up throwing your device in a fit of anger. Retro gamers, rejoice!

    Sometimes a game comes out of the blue that completely flips you on your head. VVVVVV does this quite literally, with lots of lovely gravity-defying gaming at your fingertips. With great level design, clever puzzles and plenty of hidden extras to find, VVVVVV is one of the greatest indie games you'll play this year.
