It's crime time! Team Lava's Hidden Objects: Mystery Crimes puts you behind the detective badge as you solve crimes the only way you know how: by completing hidden object scenes. Sift through lists of objects, interview suspects, and send evidence to the forensics team for evidence, all without stepping foot in a single real-life dirty alleyway.Hidden Objects: Mystery Crimes is split into two main areas of play: hidden object scenes and investigative interludes. The former are the meat and potatoes of the game, so you'll spend a great deal of time here looking for items and admiring the luscious artwork. Between rounds you'll talk with persons of interest and manage forensics tasks, many of which include quick mini-games to spice up the gameplay with some variety."Hidden object scenes are very basic, handing you a small list of items to find in a handful of cramped locations. Speed is important, as you get bonus multipliers for finding multiple objects in a row. The best tactic is to locate a couple of objects and then dart your finger around, scooping up the big points. You can also unleash bonus items like a combo booster, hint packs, and object previews, if you've got the gems to spare. Once you complete a stage you're awarded points based on your performance, and then it's back to the real detective work!Hidden Objects: Mystery Crimes features three types of currency to work with: gems, energy bolts, and stars. Energy bolts are spent to enter crime scenes to search for clues. No energy means no item hunts, but they do refill (slowly) as time passes. Gems can be spent to hurry tasks along, such as encouraging the forensics team to analyze that vial of strange liquid. They also allow you to carry power-ups into each hidden object scene, though at a surprisingly steep cost. And finally, stars are spent to interview suspects and analyze clues, sort of like energy bolts for the investigative side of things.

It seems for every mega-hit game there are ten shameless knock-offs. Match three game, Candy Blast Mania is an obvious riff on the absurdly popular Candy Crush Saga, complete with candy-colored icons, characters, and effects. Although there's some fun to be had here, Candy Blast Mania ultimately feels like Candy Crush's awkward younger sibling—less mature, less polished, and noticeably less interesting.Continuing to mention Candy Crush could sound like belaboring a point, but it's well-nigh impossible not to make comparisons between the two games so bear with me. First, let's acknowledge that the Candy Crush magic is based on several things: the music, the story, the maps, and the unusual, graphic look of the game. Candy Blast Mania seems to get this too and does its best toborrow from the Candy Crush style book. Even so, it never achieves the same impact."To begin with, the game's music is appropriately spritely. The problem is it's also repetitive and not particularly distinct. Lack of distinctiveness can also be attributed to the game's story, which is more or less nonexistent. While Candy Crush isn't exactly War and Peace, it does contain a simple little narrative which it conveys through cute, 2D animations, and by delineating different areas of its fun little map. By contrast, Candy Blast Mania'sstory is barely hinted at through periodic boss-battles. Winning these battles doesn't award you with anything, neither fun little story blurbs nor map changes, so you move from level to level with nothing to create a sense of achievement or progression.

Every day, farmers deal with pests, rodents, bad weather, and crippling debt—and they return to the job with every sunrise because the world needs to be fed. In the same vein, digital farming brings downfalls of its own, including long wait times and brainless screen-tapping. Still, like the underappreciated real-world farmer, we return to our tasks. Not because they're necessary, but because games like Farm Story 2 are comforting in their predictability.Farm Story 2 puts you in charge of an unproductive farm. It's your job to fill it up with farm-y things, like crops, cows, and shops. You earn money for delivering vegetables, eggs, milk, and other products. That money goes back into improving your farm. It's the circle of farming life."Farm Story 2 involves a lot of tapping and dragging. You purchase plots of land from the market, and tap to lay them down. You tap to plant your crops. When it's time to harvest, you drag your scythe across your rows of wheat and corn. This simple gesture is surprisingly fun to perform: There's something satisfying about harvesting a whole crop in a bare second.Similarly, you collect products from your animal friends by dragging bucket icons over their pens. Once you've collected, the animals literally stiffen and collapse, and they won't produce until you feed them. It's a silly animation, but you'll smile the first time you see it.
