As a journalist covering mobile and social games, I'm a little bit of a second class citizen in the console and powerful PC-dominated world of E3. That's why I need more games like Deus Ex: The Fall. It's a mobile game, for sure, but the iOS version I played at Square Enix's E3 booth didn't feel like any tablet experience I've ever had before.
Final Fantasy: All the Bravest Review
Square Enix has built up 25 years' worth of mostly fond memories and good feelings towards its Final Fantasy series. Its fans are loyal, enthusiastic, and trusting towards the Final Fantasy name, even when it's not followed by a Roman numeral. Final Fantasy: All the Bravest plays off this trust by hiding a greedy, shallow game beneath a nostalgic skin.
Final Fantasy IV Review
It's no secret that Square Enix loves Final Fantasy IV: it's the second-most ported game in the Final Fantasy series and one of only two Final Fantasy titles to be completely remade thus far. It received a sequel 17 years after its initial release (a favor usually reserved for a game's primary life cycle), an extra character in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (as did Square's top-grossing Final Fantasy VII), and a two-volume novelization. Square's (and its fans') love affair with Final Fantasy IV continues in its recent iOS release.

I honestly can't explain the appeal of the Mafia Wars-style "casual text MMO," which basically uses its players' impatience as currency. It's a strange brand of freemium game that seems to draw users into any incarnation, whether it's yet another mob-builder like iMobsters, a collectible card "adventure" like Rage of Bahamut, or an only semi-related "spinoff" to a popular series, like Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade. As baffling as the genre's popularity is, I'm even more confused by this newest development: I can't stop playing Airborne Brigade.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Review
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's release on the 3DS earlier this year was the ultimate piece of fan service: players were treated to over 70 songs (56 playable) from the thirteen main (numbered) entries in the Final Fantasy series, 29 characters, and plenty of RPG-esque opportunities for advancement. With a freemium version of the game now available on iOS, mobile adventurers can enjoy most of the basic trappings of Theatrhythm—minus its soul.

There's no better feeling than getting completely lost in a good RPG. It's the ultimate form of escapism; a place where you can forget all of life's troubles and assume the role of a legendary hero. And having spent much of our youth captivated by Squaresoft's many contributions to the genre, it's hard for us not to be psyched about the forthcoming re-release of Final Fantasy IV on iOS and Android.

The game paired classic Final Fantasy gameplay with modern social hooks, a potent combination which has led to a userbase of over 3 million people.
