Hoop De Loop Saga Preview
King.com's "Saga" line of social games continues to grow, and today the developer is launching yet another on Facebook. Joining the ranks of Bubble Witch Saga and Mahjong Saga is Hoop De Loop Saga, a "ball shooter" that should feel familiar to anyone who has played a game of Zuma before.
Bubble Witch Saga Review
The number of Bust-a-Move-style bubble games on Facebook continues to grow at an exponential rate, making it increasingly hard for any one game to stand out. King.com's Bubble Saga managed to do just that thanks to a clever and unique physics-based take on the genre, and the similarly titled Bubble Witch Saga attempts to do the same with ... witches. There isn't anything new here in terms of gameplay, and the experience actually feels like a step back from Bubble Saga. That's not to say that Bubble Witch Saga is a bad game, as it's solidly crafted and visually polished, but it's also not any different than all the other bubble games out there.
Mahjong Saga Review
Mahjong Saga doesn't really try to do anything drastically new with the mahjong formula, but instead offers a well rounded, and supremely relaxing, take on the tile-swapping experience. The basic gameplay remains the same as always, but with a level-based structure and lack of time limits, it manages to carve out its own place amongst the glut of mahjong titles on Facebook.
Bubble Saga Review
There are a lot of really good bubble-pop match-3 games on Facebook, which makes it all the more impressive that Bubble Saga still manages to feel especially noteworthy. Where most bubble-pop games use 2D graphics, Bubble Saga uses an entirely browser-based 3D graphics engine that models the bubbles as solid objects with appropriate physics. This may sound like a very minor change, but it makes Bubble Saga feel like a very different and perhaps more engaging game than 2D-based bubble-pop games like, say, Wooga's Bubble Island.
Miner Speed Review
King.com's Miner Speed takes the match-three gameplay and one minute time limit from Bejeweled Blitz and offers a few slight variations on this popular formula. However, these slight variations are just that - slight, and don't do enough to make the game stand apart from its extremely popular competition.
Puzzle Saga Review
Puzzle Saga is a concept that seems inescapably bound by success: a Facebook game that merges match-3 gameplay with RPG fantasy battles in the vein of the multiplatform casual hit Puzzle Quest. While Puzzle Saga is quite good by Facebook standards, it's no Puzzle Quest. The puzzle battles are real-time instead of turn-based and there's no real level of customization. The emphasis is on making matches as quickly as possible rather than necessarily making the best matches.
