    Call it fate, destiny or whatever you'd like, but it's only fitting that a company named Kabam would eventually get around to creating a game called Blast Zone! Unabashedly inspired by Bomberman and its many progeny, it's fun to play solo but even more of a hoot to play with or against others. Admit it: you thought I was going to go for the easy one and say "blast" there, didn't you?Considering the gameplay involves running around mazes and planting bombs to blow up other players and AI-controlled characters, Kabam could have gone for something dark and dystopian here. Instead, Blast Zone! takes a cuter, more cheerful route by imagining its competitions as part of a popular TV show. As far as I can tell, no one actually dies despite the massive amounts of explosions that take place.

    Kabam's latest free-to-play venture is both an amalgamation and distillation of a lot of other iOS collectible card games. Heroes of Camelot has the looks. It has the gameplay. Perhaps most importantly, it has the cards. However, while it seems like the perfect recipe for a great CCG on paper, the results are surprisingly uninteresting.The three key elements to Heroes of Camelot are the cards, the quests, and the battles. The cards can be placed into teams of four, with a maximum of three teams available for the Party once players hit level 10. Duplicates can be combined to evolve into more powerful and impressive-looking forms, and unwanted cards can be fused with favorites to level them up and increase their stats.The quests are a simple matter of tapping the screen to progress, but can yield experience, gold, and extra cards in addition to opening up even more areas to quest in with even greater rewards (and challenges). The battles are hands-off affairs with the player's Party having it out with their opponent's automatically; the results determined by skills being activated on their own and overall team prowess. It's a simple setup, but it's perfectly functional.

    Everybody loves Puzzle & Dragons. So much so, that everybody else has tried their hand at making something similar. In Kabam's case, it's Puzzle Trooper: the same match-3 puzzle game/pseudo CCG hybrid, but with fewer dragons and a lot more burly soldiers. And tanks; can't forget the tanks. Although as derivative as it may be, it's still an incredibly fun system that works well. Heck, this time around it even feels less punishing to non-paying players!Just in case anyone isn't familiar with the formula, it goes like this: players have a small group of characters (in this case, soldiers) that can belong to a number of different colors. Below them is a grid of colored circles/spheres/gems that, naturally, match the different unit colors. By sliding one of these colorful doohickeys around and creating groups of three or more, they can power up their soldiers and allow them to attack.The bigger the group and the more combos (i.e. groups cleared in one turn), the higher the damage. After enough turns pass, a unit's special ability - including changing one color to another or doing direct damage - will become available. As the platoon charges through missions, and by extension enemies, more characters can be acquired for beefing up the ranks or simply upgrading favorites.
