Tradewinds Legends Review
The course of history is often determined by trade. Shrewd business sense and quality trade routes can grow an empire, bankrupt potential enemies, and sometimes lead to war. Sandlot Games' Tradewinds Legends, originally released for PCs, does a remarkable job of showing how powerful a tool trade can be. The game's port to the iPhone/iPod Touch manages to convey this concept well, but a few shortcomings in the execution keep it from being a truly great portable experience.
Westward Review
I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have lived in the Wild West of the 1800's here in my home state of California: the gold rush, the building of missions, and every man for himself. With wonderful games like Westward, I can play cowgirl and never have to worry about getting bit by mosquitoes. Westward is an iPhone version of the PC simulation/strategy game developed by Sandlot Games, although this version was developed by Binoteq.
Super Granny 5 Review
When most grannies grow to the ripe old age where their momentum slows dramatically, their days tend to be filled with more relaxing pursuits like reading, playing cards, socializing, and napping. Not Super Granny. She gets to battle the forces of evil with blowtorches, jackhammers, and lethal handbags in order to round up her perpetually missing feline companions. Though it's much like past games in the series, Super Granny 5 continues Sandlot Games' fine tradition of lighthearted elderly empowerment and frantic platforming puzzle action.
Rasputin’s Curse Review
Mystical faith healer to some, manipulative charlatan to others, the Grigori Rasputin is the latest historical figure to get his own hidden object game in Rasputin's Curse. Rasputin was said to have an unhealthy influence over the Russian royal family of Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra and their son, Prince Alexei. But rather than focusing on this famous family in the game, you'll follow the modern-day quest of a woman named Lora as she traces her Russian ancestry back to the "Mad Monk" himself.

If Hollywood and Louis L'Amor are to be believed, this was the era when cowboys had the same sense of honor as Knights of the Round Table, gunfights were used to settle disputes, and gorgeous steam trains were the way to get around. It was a period of romance and adventure, when the nation was still young and the possibilities seemed endless. Thankfully, the Westward series of games have done the setting proud, and the newly-released Westward IV: All Aboard continues the tradition. -
