    I probably wasn't the right person to review The Cave. When I first heard that Ron Gilbert was doing a puzzle platformer, my reaction was lukewarm at best.  While I'm all for new ideas, Ron Gilbert is the man that gave us Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.  If he wasn't doing a new point-and-click adventure, I just wasn't interested in learning more.  As it turns out, that was a really ignorant prejudice on my part.

    Have you ever gone spelunking? Truth be told, I've always been a little too claustrophobic. That bummed me out for a while, but having dwelled on the matter more, I've come to terms with it. No cavern I ever explore in the real world will match the symbolism-laden, sentient cave debuting in the upcoming Double Fine-developed, Sega-published The Cave.

    It's sort of amazing that a company could find an idea like the one explored in Stacking and make it work at all, let alone so well. Stacking presentes a steampunk meets Charles Dickens style world populated entirely by Russian matryoshka dolls (the nesting dolls that sit inside each other). That idea not only gives the world the rich character it so enjoys, but also facilitates quite ingeniously the game's main mechanic.

    Costume Questis a fairly traditional action RPG freshened up almost entirely by its concept. InCostume Quest, you play one of two twins who go out trick-or-treating one Halloween night. Once out, they encounter a race of candy-stealing goblins commanded by an evil witch, one of whom mistakes one of the twins' for a giant piece of candy thanks to a candy corn costume. The other twin (the one you control) vows to rescue the missing sibling by amassing a vast collection of Halloween costumes and teaming up with other kids.
