    As a fulltime gamer, I'm having a great time watching social gaming evolve. On Facebook (and now Google+), we've gone from simple text adventures and virtual farming, to epic sagas wrapped in accessible packaging. CrowdStar now once again ups the ante with a strategy romp called Wasteland Empires that's easy to jump into but almost impossible to tear yourself away from.

    With games like It Girl and Top Girl, CrowdStar certainly knows what it's doing when it comes to more casual social games. But Wasteland Empires is something totally different. Aimed at the burgeoning mid-core demographic on Facebook, the game puts you in control of a fledgling settlement in the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic world. You'll be carving out a life in a world full of death, not only by building up a suitable colony, but by defending yourself in player versus player combat. Life is hard in Wasteland Empires.

    Ever since Barbie stormed onto the scene many years ago, she epitomized what was wrong with marketing to girls. Sure, she's gotten way better over the years, and her proportions have started to get a tad more realistic, but she's still all-plastic, all-American, female fakery. Top Girl has managed to destroy every stride that marketing to girls taken in the last 30 years in one fell swoop. I know I'm not Top Girl's target market, but I shudder to think how the creators of this game feel about theirs.
