    From the first moment I got to sit down with Minimum - an upcoming release from publisher Atari and developer Human Head - I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Minimalist visual styles have been all the rage in recent years, with games like Minecraft and Journey proving that you don't need super-detailed graphics in order to stand out from the competition.In fact, Minimum's visuals made my first impression all the more memorable. While my first couple of matches took some getting used to, I quickly realized how refreshing it felt to play a shooter that went easy on the visuals. Project lead Norm Nazaroff presented the game as being true to its name: Everything is minimalistic, from the visuals to the gameplay to the customization.Blocky white stick figures shooting each other with black guns sounds a bit iffy, but when I was given a chance to go, I realized how much fun it actually is. Right off the bat, I was able to draw similarities between Minimum and Uber Entertainment's Super Monday Night Combat. Both games follow the MOBA structure found in games like League of Legends and Solstice Arena. Minimum?like Monday Night Combat?borrows the "destroy the enemy base" goal and places it under a guise of a third person shooter.

    Digital marketplaces like the App Store and Google Play are governed by a set of unwritten rules. RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile from Atari breaks a biggie by charging players admission for a game packed with the waiting and premium currency purchases typical of a free-to-play title.RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile has another problem: It's just not very good. It's not unplayable by any means, but there's little about the game that differentiates it from other mobile games based around developing and running an amusement park. That's kind of a sad thing to have to say about a title that bears the legendary RollerCoaster Tycoon moniker.Nevertheless, build you must. RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile puts you in charge of a patch of land that you need to nurture into a thriving destination of fun and games. If you don't, the mayor will turn the lot into a strip mall. Boo to shopping! Hooray for riding the teacups after eating corn dogs, and other bad decisions made in the name of good times!

    The overhaul of Baldur's Gate by Overhaul Games scooped up many deserved plaudits for bringing a true classic to a new generation of gamers. But while it was a reminder of how great old games can be, it also demonstrated how much things had improved in terms of graphics and user interfaces.I was expecting a similar experience from this enhanced and extended version of the sequel, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. It is after all, a similar package: the original game with its expansion, plus some new characters and their plotlines and an arena mode focussing on the battle engine."So I was pretty shocked to end up comparing it to much more modern RPGs like The Witcher series. The graphics might not be directly comparable, but the original game looked stunning on release, and a little spit and polish has left it looking perfectly respectable today. And this is a much more party-based affair than the modern fashion for single-character focus.But in most respects Baldur's Gate II can stand toe-to-toe with its antecedents and come off proud. Vast amounts of content are crammed into the three gigabytes of download: horrible villains, lich-haunted libraries, and vibrant cityscapes.

    Whether or not you've actually sat down and played it, you're surely familiar with Dungeons & Dragons. It's one of those rare games that made the leap over to pop culture phenomenon, even inspiring a god-awful film back in 2001. It's also been adapted into myriad video games, many of which deviate significantly from what the original game was all about. The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Warbands certainly strays away a bit, but it also stays true to its RPG roots.

    If I didn't know better, I'd say Deer Hunter Online was satire. Barely three minutes past the starting screen, I'd picked off four deer and elk with all the indifference of chain-popping M&Ms, and this wanton slaughter extended well past the tutorial. In some dark way, this accelerated realism makes for a darkly humorous experience. True hunters spend hours or even days tracking down a single deer, but I'd killed enough deer within 10 minutes to land me in jail in several states.
