    Skyward Collapse is a god game with a twist. Instead of leading your people to victory over non-believers, you lead two sets of people to a state of geopolitical equilibrium. In doing this, you must ensure that both sides are powerful enough to survive and flourish in a dangerous, mythological world, but that neither gains enough of an advantage to wipe the other out. It's an interesting idea, but it leaves something to be desired in execution.

    There's a certain sense of nostalgia that gets tapped into whenever I load up a 2D sidescrolling exploration platformer, or as their known now a "Metroidvania" experience. Long mornings turned into evenings as I went over every little pixel with every tool in my arsenal, to discover every passage to get every treasure in games like Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid. Recent indie release A Valley Without Wind wants to tap into that while throwing in the proverbial kitchen sink for good measure, so stick with me for a bit.

    Makers of the puzzle game Tidalis and the AI War series of strategy games, Arcen Games are working on a new side-scrolling platformer called A Valley Without Wind. The game is "procedurally generaetd," meaning the world that you get to explore will never be the same way twice, leading to near-infinite replay value. The beta is now available for pre-order on Gamersgate.

    Tidalis promises to take you to unexplored realms, both through its fantastical storyline and its fresh take on the match-three puzzler. You'll still be matching up some familiar coloured blocks, but the way you do it differs considerably from other games in the genre. Rather than your typical Bejeweled-style swap-a-thon this is all about making use of "streams."
