Marc Saltzman in his review of Nightshift Legacy: The Jaguar's Eye believes 2008 will go down as the year of the "HOG" as in hidden object games. But I think it would be the year HOGs shun the HOG label for point-and-click adventures like in the old PC days. Natalie Brooks: The Treasures of the Lost Kingdom puts a greater emphasis on adventure and less on hidden object finding. Natalie Brooks returns for another adventure that isn't unlike others we've seen in this genre. Grandpa is lost or kidnapped (in this case, kidnapped) and the hero must search for something in order to get Grandpa back. Though the story sounds clichéd, it integrates well with the game play.
Finding Doggy Review
Finding Doggy from Jaibo Games is a very slow-paced match 3 game that requires relying on luck instead of strategy. Plentiful and potent power-ups remove much of the challenge, though. This can be a fun game for families to play together but will offer little of interest to most individual players. Nothing could be simpler than the plot for Finding Doggy. Doggy, a cute mutt from Grandma's farm, falls asleep in the back of a neighbor's pickup truck. In Alabama Smith in Escape from Pompeii, however, even the most experienced gamers will hit dead spots that require multiple hints. Some puzzles are satisfying, but overall gameplay can be frustrating owing to a story that jumps between too many instructions and none at all.Alabama Smith starts out with two interesting characters and a good idea: a way to give additional guidance in an adventure. Alabama is a twentysomething college student. The school sends him on a summer course to Europe where he meets the daughter of an archaeologist and they set off on a quest for a mysterious amulet.

In the case of The Treasures of Mystery Island, innovation's offered by way of the need to assemble inventory items and use them to solve puzzles or spark off engaging mini-games.
