Wipeout for iOS is based on a game show that airs on ABC. If you don't watch the show because all your TV time goes to doing heroic deeds and helping grandmothers cross the street (you liar), all you really need to know is that contestants run across crazy obstacle courses. When they inevitably get knocked off, they wind up in the drink. It's all in the name of goofy fun, a credo that likewise describes the Wipeout game.

There's a big of irony to be had with Activision's new Pitfall! title. The original side-scrolling Pitfall put Activision on the map as one of the most popular games on the Atari 2600. Its incredible success spawned an endless pool of arcade and computer clones. Now that jungle adventurer Pitfall Harry is returning for a grand 30th anniversary, it seems a little odd that he'd be coming back in a clone of his own.

As a parent to a 7 year old, there's no questioning that my family is the target market for the Skylanders franchise. Over the holiday season we revelled in its great family friendly console game that offered up a top-down shooter with just a hint of light RPG character development. We spent weeks upon weeks trying to track down that one particularly hard to find character in the immediate area (for us, it was an air Skylander). And so, when we learned that the brand was coming to the App Store, we couldn't help but get a little excited.

Haven't heard of Skylanders? You must not be a parent, then. This past holiday season they became the biggest thing since Pokemon. A neat mixing of real world toys and video games, players could purchase plastic characters that could then be accessed in-game by placing them on an accessory called the "portal of power." It's pretty ingenious, really - and the game is plenty of fun, too. Soon iOS gamers will get a taste of this world thanks to the upcoming Skylanders Cloud Patrol.
