Zynga considering going down the sequel path

Much of Zynga’s unparalelled success has been thanks to the “ville” line of games: FarmVille, FrontierVille, CityVille. But while those games share many common characteristics, up until this point Zynga hasn’t released a direct sequel to any of it’s games. According to chief game designer Brian Reynolds, though, that may change.

“Well, it’s so early in our industry, is it time to have sequels? I don’t know. It sounds like something we might do,” Reynolds told IndustryGamers.

While it sounds like Zynga is considering making a FarmVille 2, or something along those lines, Reynolds was quick to point out that the developer isn’t really in a rush.

“It’s never too late to do a sequel, by the way,” he said. “It’s not like we need to be quickly running for the sequels because you can do sequels even 10 years after the original game. The first Civilization sequel came out five years after the first one and the next one was five years after that. And we’ve only even been a company for three years.”
