You should be watching a Harold Ramis movie tonight, but if you can’t…

Harold Ramis was one of the greats. If you’re in your thirties and love comedy, there’s a very good chance that Ramis played a huge part in that. You probably know him as Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters, but he was so much more. Ramis wrote Animal House, Stripes and Meatballs. He directed Caddyshack, Groundhog Day and National Lampoon’s Vacation. In short, he created everything you ever loved about comedy. And as of today, sadly, he’s no longer with us.

The only proper thing to do tonight is to cancel your plans, microwave some popcorn, and break out your favorite Ramis flick. For me it’ll be Caddyshack. But hey – if you can’t do this, we’re not going to judge you. As much as you might want to go home and watch SCTV until your eyes hurt, we know you have other obligations.

So maybe instead of enjoying a Harold Ramis classic, you can stick one of these games on your phone in your travels tonight to remind you of his work instead.

If you wish you were watching Caddyshack, play Let’s Golf 3

news

Seriously – why hasn’t there been an official Caddyshack video game yet? This one seems like a no brainer. But since the licensing gods haven’t yet seen fit to grant us this blessing, we’ll have to settle for something funny, but not quite “when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup” funny. My first inclination is to recommend something in the PlayStation Hot Shots Golf family, but if all you have is your phone, Let’s Golf 3 is the closest you’ll get. It seems to have disappeared from the App Store, but Android owners can still snag it on Google Play.

If you wish you were watching Animal House, play Beer Pong HD

news

In 1962, the height of fraternity life – at least according to Animal House – could be summed up in three little words: TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! But in 2014, I think that frats might be a little more likely to set up a drunkards tournament of champions, beer pong style. There are plenty of beer pong apps out there, but this one managed to catch our eye as a worthy option. BONUS GAME: Have a PC kicking around? Why not go with a rather terrible homage to Animal House instead? I present exhibit A: Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude.

If you wish you were watching Ghostbusters, play Ghostbusters

news

It’s the first project most people think of when they hear the name Harold Ramis, and if you’re in the mood for Ghostbusters, why settle for anything short of the real thing? This free-to-play game from Beeline Interactive plays a fair bit like Battleheart, which is reason enough to download it. BONUS GAME: if you’re not tied exclusively to your phone, you can always check out Terminal Reality’s amazing console/desktop Ghostbusters: The Video Game from a few years back that Ramis has a writing credit on (and reprises his role as Egon in alongside the original film cast!)

If you wish you were watching National Lampoon’s Vacation, play The Organ Trail

news

This one might feel like a bit of a stretch, but hear me out – both projects feature a trek across the country, and both do it in what appears to be the Family Truckster. What could possible go wrong in such a fine family automobile?

If you wish you were watching Stripes, play Respawnables

news

“Military comedy” is a really specific niche. No matter how hard I scratch my head, the only other one I can think of is Pauly Shore’s In the Army Now – and let me tell you, Andy Dick is no Harold Ramis. But if you’re looking for an army game on your phone that can give you a few good chuckles, Respawnables is Zynga’s answer to Battlefield Heroes. And did we mention there are Ghostbusters costumes available in it? DOUBLE RAMIS WIN!

If you wish you were watching Groundhog Day, play Flappy Bird

news

Groundhog Day is the story of a bad person who gets better by reliving the same experience over and over and over again. If that doesn’t sound like playing Flappy Bird to you, than I don’t know what does. Too bad it’s not available to download anymore… which brings us to our last suggestion:

If you wish you were watching Multiplicity, play Flappy Wings, Flappy Devil, Flappy Miley Wrecking Ball Pro, etc..

news

GET IT??? BECAUSE THEY’RE CLONES!!! roflololololol

Jim Squires is the Editor-in-Chief of Gamezebo. Everything you see passes his eyes first, so we like to think of him as "the gatekeeper of cool stuff." He likes good games, great writing, and just can't say no to a hamburger. Also, he is not a bear.
