The week in gaming news: December 2, 2011 edition

It was a busy week here at Gamezebo. We reviewed a whole lot of games, announced our games of the month for November, and kicked off our Best of 2011 series, which will highlight the best, worst, and strangest in casual gaming all December long. But during that time a lot happened in the world of gaming too, from games announcing new updates to others celebrating important milestones. Here’s was happened this week in gaming.

Monday

It had been teased for a while, but on Monday we learned that Indiana Jones was finally coming to Adventure World. And coming soon, as the legendary adventurer made his debut in the game this past Tuesday.
U4iA, a new social studio made up of former Call of Duty developers, announced some ambitious plans. Namely, to surpass the Call of Duty series by creating the biggest shooter around.
The developers behind Call of Cthulhu got into the holiday spirit by making a Lovecraft-inspired Christmas Calendar app for iOS and Android users.
Zynga may buy a lot of developers, but it turns out the Facebook giant couldn’t manage to scoop up either Popcap or Rovio, despite its best efforts.
In our weekly Monday Morning Quarterback editorial series we took a look at the controversial issue of plagiarism in games and how we as consumers fit into the problem

Tuesday

Speaking of plagiarism, a Rovio impersonator made headlines by selling a wide range of fake apps in the Android Market while using the name of the developer behind Angry Birds.
Indie Royale launched its latest bundle, which featured a pretty diverse set of games all bundled together for one low price.
In another editorial, we looked at why the soccer management game Top Eleven is such a great cross-platform game experience.
Good news for those of us who play Google Chrome games, as the browser announced gamepad support.

Wednesday

FrontierVille got into the holiday spirit as well, announcing the Holiday Hallow expansion, though a release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
Where’s My Water? got updated too, with the new “Boiling Point” chapter that adds 20 new levels to the popular mobile game.
Not to be left out, Cut The Rope: Holiday Gift also got updated with a number of features, including the ability to create your own holiday cards.

Thursday

Quirky browser game Glitch is heading back into beta after the developers announced they were “unlaunching” the game to focus on major imrpovements.
We attended Appnation and got the lowdown on what’s coming next in the world of mobile games.

Friday

You may not believe it, but as of today CityVille is one year old. It doesn’t look a day over 50 million users.
KlickNation, the developer behind Facebook games like Six Gun Galaxy and Age of Champions, is now a part of EA and will be developing social games under the BioWare umbrella.
Pocket God on Facebook is celebrating a milestone too, as one million players have now experienced the joy of sacrificing helpless pygmies.
