The Pygmies’ world is coming to an end in the final update for Pocket God

Many religions argue that their God or gods have no beginning or end. On the App Store, however, it’s common enough for deities to fade to black. Many religions argue that their God or gods have no beginning or end. On the App Store, however, it’s common enough for deities to fade to black. For instance, Pocket God, one of the most consistently-updated games on iOS, will be receiving its final update this week. The Mayan apocalypse may be a myth, but for millions of tiny digital islanders, it’s about to become distressingly real.

Fittingly enough, the last update for Pocket God contains content that’s fitting for the End of Days. You’ll attempt to put a stop to the impending apocalypse by collecting gems and sealing the Apocalypse Temple. But before you go blaming the Mayans for this unpleasant turn of events, know that they have nothing to do with it. No, according to the update, this cataclysm is strictly the handiwork of Xenu and the Scientologists.

So is this the end of the Pocket God islanders? Nope; they’re a hardy bunch, and they’ll live on through 2013 in their next game, Pocket God: The Runs. You can also expect more appearances outside the smartphone screen, like the recent line of figurines that are on sale at Barnes & Noble. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end, after all.
