The forthcoming iOS release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown won’t feature in-app purchases, designer Jake Solomon informed IGN. Although I’m sure a lot of gamers are happy about this, what I really want to know is how the enemy aliens feel. Happy as well, I’d assume.

Given the loaded nature of the subject, it’s not uncommon for developers to quickly confirm or deny the existence of in-app purchases in their game and leave it at that. Solomon, on the other hand, was a little more outspoken on the subject.

“Oh God, please… no. I’m not sure I would be able to sleep at night. My food would taste like ashes in my mouth,” he told IGN’s Justin Davis.

Given XCOM‘s reputation as being a difficult series, Solomon’s remarks aren’t so surprising. Purchasable upgrades wouldn’t sit well with the series’ legacy, and would turn Enemy Unknown into a largely different game.

Additionally, as you may have already guessed, Enemy Unknown is going to be a premium title.  No specific details about pricing have been revealed, but Solomon mentioned that it would be “fair.” So, we can probably expect it to be pretty south of $50 – possibly somewhere in the $10-$20 range.

Solomon also informed Davis that, although the iOS version won’t launch with DLC available, that’s something they’re considering for down the road.
