Don’t expect to be playing The Elder Scrolls: Blades until December 1, at the very earliest.
So says its App Store pre-order page, which now has that date listed as the “expected” release date. You may recall that wasn’t always the case.
In fact, the eagerly anticipated new twist on one of the most popular fantasy RPG franchises in recent memory had originally touted both September 1 and September 7 expected launch dates. One of those has already past, obviously, and now it’s quite clear the game won’t be ready to go this week, especially since people on hand at PAX last weekend reported that Bethesda was showing off the same demo there as it did at E3 several months prior.
Though short, that E3 demo got fans pretty pumped as it was a faithful Elder Scrolls experience that also just happened to be designed with mobile in mind, specifically the way it could be played horizontally or vertically and even just with a single hand. Even that small glimpse of the world brought back plenty of memories, and there was plenty of optimism that Bethesda was treating it the way that many companies say they will do with mobile entries to their famous IPs but too often fail to deliver.
Maybe that goal was just harder to attain that the company originally hoped. It’s worth remembering that Blades is also supposed to end up on consoles, PC and even VR, so there might be some entanglements with getting it in shape for all of those platforms. Whatever the case may be, we’re just as hopeful it will be the goods but bummed that said goods won’t be delivered until the holiday season, and we can’t imagine we’re alone there. We’ll be keeping tabs on any more changes to the expected release date for The Elder Scrolls: Blades, but until then, keep your eyes to the App Store horizon.
