Telltale names its Fables game: The Wolf Among Us

Way back in 2011, Telltale Games announced that they were hard at work on a game adaption of the popular DC Comics/Vertigo series Fables. But the lack of new information since then has left the project feeling a bit like a dreamy fable in of itself – until now that is! Telltale has revealed today that the new episodic game series will be called The Wolf Among Us, and is set to release sometime this summer.

Serving as a prequel to the Fables comic series by Bill Willingham, The Wolf Among Us will find protagonist Bigby Wolf exiled in New York City, and forced to protect other fairytale characters like the Three Little Pigs from harm’s way. The first released promo picture for the newly-branded series features a stony-faced Bigby lighting a cigarette, and cast in the shadows of a dark and empty alley.

The game has been a long time coming, and there are more than a few good reasons for you to be excited for The Wolf Among Us: the biggest one being that Telltale Games is still coming off the success of a little game called The Walking Dead. You may have come across it on any number of “Top Games of 2012” lists to ever hit the internet (including our own, where it took  the #1 spot). And if we can assume anything from Telltale’s past game series, The Wolf Among Us will likely be split into five different episodes, and spread throughout monthly releases beginning this summer.

We can expect to learn more about The Wolf Among Us in the weeks going forward, like specific details about the game’s plot and a more concrete release date. But right now I’m just excited to seeing what kind of trouble the Three Little Pigs could possibly have gotten into in the Big Apple.
