Telltale Games loves the iPad, still skittish on Android

Point and click adventures and touch screen devices seem to go hand in hand, so it come as no shock that Telltale Games is head over heels in love with them – the iPad in particular. In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Telltale CEO Dan Connors spoke of the success the company has seen on the iPad, what it means for the future, and why they’re still not on Android devices.

“The tablet is super interesting to us because we believe the style of content we build is perfect for the form factor,” Connors told Gamasutra. “The fact that Apple has been able to get such a powerful tablet out there with a big install base makes it the obvious place to focus.”

The article goes on to reveal that iOS sales made up for a whopping 30% of their monthly revenue in September, up from 15% in the month previous. And Connors expects that the iPad will account for 15-20% of the revenue they generate from all future releases.

“What we’re seeing is you have access to a worldwide audience. There seems to be a real proliferation of these devices across the world. And the App Store is so easy for people to purchase from. You can get your products to market really quickly and get them in front of people really quickly. There’s a good diverse audience – which is really good for the content that we do.”

With touch screen seemingly such a perfect fit, you might expect Telltale’s next big target would be Android devices. But as many publishers and developers are realizing, the wide variety of hardware options can make it difficult to create a game that’s going to run well on so many different devices. “We’re waiting on it to define itself more from a marketplace standpoint,” says Connors.

Still, that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in expanding to additional touch screen devices. Connors goes on to discuss the potential of the recently announced Kindle Fire, the high tech nature of the iPad 2, and more.
