Taival is another cosy co-op game to get you completely sidetracked in with friends. Finnish indie studio Bonobo Software and publisher Level Up Gaming have launched the title on Steam Early Access for PC.

The name Taival actually means journey in Finnish

The game is about wandering around a huge, handcrafted world with your weird little buddy called the Henki. Henki are actually shapeshifters responsible for keeping the world of Taival in balance. The story starts with you stumbling across the last Henki.

Unfortunately, someone destroyed the Heartstone of the Henki, shattering its heritage. So, you and your companion head across the world to recover its lost fragments, restore the Heartstone, and eventually bring the Henki back where it belongs.

As you meet different creatures throughout the world in Taival, your Henki absorbs their essence and can transform into their forms. Every form comes with different abilities for both combat and exploration.

There are four distinct biomes in Taival. They are spread across multiple seamlessly connected realms, including rolling highlands, dense forests, mountains, ancient ruins, and plenty of other places. Every region has its own environments, inhabitants, stories, and secrets.

Taival has a full main quest alongside loads of side quests that cover all sorts of situations. Sometimes you’re investigating mysteries, settling arguments between NPCs, or dealing with unique combat encounters. Examples include helping a farmer figure out who stole a barrel full of plants, which turns out to be a rodent. Or trying to solve a house ownership dispute between two goblins, and so on.

It’s a co-op for up to four players. You can play online, play on the couch with split-screen, or even mix both at the same time. Taival is now available on Steam, discounted by 20% for the next 14 days. Later, it’s also coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2.
