Hybrid Fiction Games is cooking up a new game called Stratagem Lost. They made some new announcements this week. First of all, they now have a window for the release, which is winter 2026. Yes, this time it’s official. Secondly, they updated the Steam demo with some new features and mechanics.

Stratagem Lost is a loud turn-based strategy RPG and visual novel

It comes in a gritty punk aesthetic that reminds you of the early 2000s. A single-player game, Stratagem Lost, really seems obsessed with style and attitude. The inspirations include Dadaism, pop art, hard rock, nu-metal, expressionist art, and punk aesthetics.

And it shows, all those influences. Battles in the game look like comic book snapshots with vibrant expressionist illustrations. Meanwhile, the cutscenes lean hard into grungy, vivid imagery. And all of it is complemented by stomping nu-metal and alternative rock (that, too, with live guitars) music and soundtrack.

The story follows a bunch of drafted soldiers who get pulled into conspiracies, sabotage, terrorist attacks, and otherworldly horrors. The game has professional voice actors, like Amanda Hufford (The Amazing Digital Circus, Date Everything, and Genshin Impact) and Joshua Waters (Witch Hat Atelier and Honkai Star Rail).

Your characters do actions in basically any order as long as they still have stamina left. So, units can move, attack, use skills, reposition, then keep going if they’ve got the resources for it. And there’s a playable dog, too. A Rottweiler!

The game has mechanics like Positive Marks that enhance and unlock skills. While Comrade Duos lets characters share abilities with each other. Mercs can block attacks, energise your squad, and mess with enemies.

Stratagem Lost lands on Steam for PC later this year.
