Steamworld Dig is a neat little exploratory platformer that’s done pretty well for itself since it released back in 2013 for the 3DS. It created a cool universe populated by steam-powered robots, gave the whole experience an Old West feel, and featured a whole lot of digging. If you happen to have a 3DS (or Win/Mac/Linux PC, Playstation 4, Vita, Wii U, or Xbox One) I’d recommend checking it out.

Fast-forward to December of 2015 and we now have Steamworld Heist, a sort-of sequel to Steamworld Dig that’s now available on the 3DS. But the more important (and relevant to us) news is that, unlike its predecessor, Steamworld Heist is officially bound for iOS.

Steamworld Heist takes place in the same universe as Dig, but it’s a completely different style of game. Whereas the first was a platformer with mining and a little action, this one is a turn-based strategy game that focuses on light RPG elements and tons of loot. Oh, and it’s got a pretty strong Firefly vibe (a lovable crew of space scoundrels, questionable authority figures, an entire race searching for a new home among the stars, etc).

It’s really good, so yes, we’re pretty giddy that it’s coming to mobile devices. The price and specific release date haven’t been revealed yet, but we’ve been told you can expect this one to arrive sometime in 2016.

Just a guy who likes to play video games, then tell people about them. Also a fan of the indie development scene.
