SQUAKE: Because Snake should have been a MOBA

Remember mobile games in the 90’s? Or more aptly, mobile “game”? Snake wasn’t just the best choice for gamers at the dawn of the cell phone age – for many of us, it was the only choice. And like the devices it was most popular on, Snake was fairly limited in terms of what it could do.

But that was then, and this is now. And Snake? It’s grown up quite a bit.

We’ve seen plenty of takes on the classic formula (Nimble Quest, Snakes and Apples) but nobody has seen fit to turn Snake into a fully-fledged multiplayer battle experience until now. On-5, the folks behind past multiplayer gems like the pre-Draw Something classic Charadium and the recent exercise in co-operation Indie Pixel, are looking to remedy that with SQUAKE.

While there will be plenty of modes coming when the game launches in beta this December (that’s the target, at least), you can check out the first by downloading the alpha right now. Just be sure to find someone to play it with, and if you like it, give it a thumbs up on Steam Greenlight.
