Publisher Hyperstrange has kicked off its week-long Steam publisher sale. But what’s more attention-grabbing is their newest release. It’s loud, extremely bloody, and very into heavy metal. Called Slaughter Void, the game comes from developer Dread Night.

Slaughter Void offers lethal combat and nonstop forward momentum

You get into a savage run through cults, beastmen, necromancers, and shattered realms. They are all inspired by 1980s arcade action games and retro fantasy paperbacks. There’s also a lot of influence from fantasy stories and artwork from the 1970s and 1980s, while the soundtrack leans heavily into the classic heavy metal riffs.

The combat is one-hit-one-kill action. You die in a single hit. Most enemies do, too. The entire challenge is figuring out who lands that killing blow first. Slaughter Void rewards aggressive play, chaining kills together, and moving as fast as possible through every encounter. Rack up enough kills quickly, and your speed transforms into momentum.

Blood may be everywhere, but Bones are the currency that matters. Every act of violence leaves behind remains that you can collect, and faster level clears bring bigger rewards. You return to the Astrarium between runs, where you can spend your Bones with the Smith, the Huntress, and the Twins. These vendors unlock sacred instruments of slaughter.

There are 36 handcrafted levels in Slaughter Void, each featuring different environments and enemy types. The progression system doesn’t stop when a run ends, either. You continually grow stronger between attempts, unlocking weapons.

Every primary weapon, secondary tool, and relic comes with its own unique properties. Secondary weapons extend your reach beyond melee range, while relics can dramatically alter how you play. Some improve kicks, some reflect incoming shots, and some add explosive effects.

Slaughter Void is now available on Steam for PC.
