Saw: Genesis Is a 3v1 Horror Game Set a Century Before Jigsaw

We’ve been covering a lot of horror games lately. And why not, since these indie releases are raising the bar for the genre. This time, I have an asymmetrical horror game called Saw: Genesis. Yes, it’s part of the hit Saw movie series. If you like to be Dead by Daylight (pun intended), then you might like this one, too!

So, Saw: Genesis is being developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios and published by Bloober Team. It’s coming to PC in Early Access via Steam, but they don’t have an exact date for that yet. They launched some new trailers, which you can check out right here.

Saw: Genesis is a first-person 3v1 multiplayer horror game

Where one player becomes the Judge, and three others play as the Accused. The Judge isn’t actually Jigsaw, though. This all happens around a century before John Kramer ever became the serial killer known as Jigsaw and before the events of the Saw films.

The story in Saw: Genesis takes place in the grim aftermath of World War I. It follows the Judge, an early figure whose twisted methods eventually influence Jigsaw’s philosophy and psychological games.

Three players are thrown into a maze full of traps while one player controls the Judge from behind the scenes. Every map is procedurally generated, and no two trials play out the same. Routes change, plans fall apart, and everyone has to adapt every single match.

The Judge gets some pretty nasty tools to work with. He has exclusive access to hidden corridors and a noise-detection map, can use hallucinogenic gas and paralysing toxins to distract and immobilise the Accused.

He can even summon an Accomplice whose job is to drag players into Rehabilitation Traps. The Judge is shaped by everything he experienced during The Great War and believes humanity can only be rehabilitated through pain and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, the three Accused are trapped inside a deadly labyrinth where teamwork is everything. You need to coordinate with your teammates, complete challenges, search for useful items, collect keys before time runs out, and survive. Yeah, that’s Saw: Genesis for you.
