Royalty Free-For-All Is a Super Smash Bros.-Like Coming Soon to PC and Consoles

AAAA Games is developing a new platform fighter and party brawler called Royalty Free-For-All. With 2d Saturday morning cartoon visuals, the inspirations for the game are pretty clear. It features hand-drawn battlefields inspired by watercolour backgrounds from classic animated productions.

The theme is quite interesting, though. It takes a bunch of public domain characters and mixes them up in the gameplay. You’ll find names like Lancelot, Mother Goose, Dorothy Gale, and Nessie sharing the same battlefield. The game gives them modern cartoon redesigns and drops them into hand-drawn stages inspired by literature, folklore, movies, songs, and real-world history.

Royalty Free-For-All has basic combat that revolves around Light, Strong, and Special attacks. It also has genre staples like moonwalking, foxtrotting, tech landing, wavedashing, and other advanced techniques. In fact, wavedashing even gets an optional single-button command.

The game also includes a bunch of ruleset options. You can stick with pre-made settings or create your own. Party Mode changes the usual platform fighter formula by warping players across the screen when they go out of bounds instead of eliminating them.

Meanwhile, the Legal ruleset uses tournament-legal settings and removes casual stages from random selection. Stock, Time, Stamina, Teams, Item toggles, and Random Stage options are all included as well.

Royalty Free-For-All is flexible

You can fully adjust the controls, which I just mentioned above. Apart from that, the game also comes with optional visual settings. For instance, there are choices such as Film Grain and Cel Shadow that give the game a fuzzy, nostalgic vibe.

As for game modes, it offers online PvP, shared/split screen PvP, and online/local co-op. You jump into online quickplay for fast one-on-one matches or create Private Lobbies that support up to four friends plus spectators. Take a look at the game below.
