Feral Interactive has announced that the standalone expansion to Rome: Total War, Barbarian Invasion, will launch on iPhone on May 9.

If you’ve already purchased the campaign on iPad, there’s no need to worry. That version will simply switch to a universal app, allowing you to play the same game across your iPhone and iPad.

Barbarian Invasion is a Standalone Expansion, Featuring a New Campaign and 10 New Factions

Barbarian Invasion takes place three centuries after the events of the base game, during the end of the Roman Empire.

You’ll play as either a Barbarian tribe or the Roman Empire itself. Your goal will differ depending on your choice, with the former tasked with ending the Roman Empire while the latter seeks to defend it.

There are 10 new factions to play as, eight of which are Barbarian tribes. There’s also a massive new campaign to battle through, with plenty of replayability thanks to the new factions.

You can grab the iPad app right now on the App Store via the link at the top of this page, in anticipation of the iPhone launch tomorrow. That’s when it will become a universal app.
