Rocky Rampage: Wreck ‘em Up is the kind of game smartphones were made for. It’s colorful, casual, addictive, and the story makes no sense whatsoever.

You play as Mr Boulder, a peerlessly fashionable citizen of the Rock Kingdom. You’re not a rock, though. You just have certain characteristics of a rock, such as the ability to be hurled through the air without dying.

One day, Mr Boulder’s underpants are stolen by Her Sharpness Empress Clipper, from the Empire of Scissor.

This is where Mr Boulder’s uniquely rock-like skillset comes in. With little thought for his own safety, Mr Boulder recruits a giant boar to repeatedly propel him through the air so that he can crush the soldiers of Scissor and, god-willing, get his underpants back.

Fortunately, mobile games don’t have to make sense. In fact, the more bonkers they are the better.

Rocky Rampage is the perfect mobile game, with simple gameplay and an addictive, incremental upgrade process.

To send Mr Boulder flying, all you need to do is tap the screen. A golf game-style indicator sweeps back and forth across a power gauge, and when your finger meets glass your trusty boar charges and strikes.

Once Mr Boulder is aloft, a second power meter comes into play. This one allows you to give him a little upwards boost when he starts to slow down. Each boost costs a massive chunk of energy, and you recover this energy by crushing bad guys.

Each go earns you coins, and between attempts you spend these on all sorts of boosts and upgrades to help you go further next time. There are mounts, too. It’s incredibly satisfying when you get yourself all powered up and pull off a perfect run.

Rocky Rampage: Wreck ‘em Up is out globally right now on Google Play and the App Store. And if you pre-registered you’ll get a free Golden Chest Upgrade just for showing up.
